I've almost stopped eating completely

I've just realized that on wednesday, I ate a wrap... thursday I had a burger, yesterday I had a chicken burger and a few wings and so far.... it's 9:50pm and I have yet to eat anything today.

You'd think I'd be starving right now, but I'm not.

This can't be good

I did, 3 needles later, I'm waiting for the results. My doctor had quite a look of fear in his eyes though when I described my condition to him. I have to go see him again in a month.

Shemp, that's very true... every once in a while I see a person dragging an IV stand behind them in the corner store.

huh? For the record, I drink pepsi... but if you mean what I think you do, then chances are... it's not.

Particularly since I've never done any drug, never smoked and hardly drink at all (definitely never get drunk).

So nope, not the coke.

You and I are definitely going to have to get together and hit a buffet or something sometime to try to get our systems back in gear.

Lane, it's not just a "not hungry" feeling, it's a "I don't feel like eating" feeling. Hm... more to the point, it's a "I don't feel like existing" feeling.

You are gonna die.

But thats a given...

Seriously, you drink WAYYY too much pepsi though. When is the last time you saw fruit and veggies? hehe. I nearly die everytime I walk in the office and see your desk

A big sign on depression for me is the lack of an appetite. When I get angry, I get hungry, when I get depressed, I stop eating (like, 1 meal a day, the "just not hungry" (not wanting sex is my other major indicator)

Yeah, I'm definitely an addict... I can't help it.

As for fruits and veggies, well, I do get out to some nicer restaurants once or twice a week, inwhich case... I do get salads or foods with them. But I certainly don't eat nearly as much as most would recommend.

dont skip breakfast, it will keep your apetite going for the day.

take a multivitamin, u need it if u dont eat much, plus it also fuels your apetite.

the body gets used to starving.. once u get into that mode, your stomach doesnt give u any signals anymore.. its gonna sound weird but u gotta eat to start to feel like eating again.

I just started a thread about me thinking I'm depressed. Going through the same type of symptoms here. I've had a huge loss of appetite over the past few months and have dropped about 40lbs since september.

Loss of appetite is just the tip of the ice berg for me... after describing some of the things I've been feeling, my doctor had a look on his face I'll never forget.

I highly recommend avoiding getting to that point, if I were you.

Fifty pounds in 6 weeks!? That is NOT healthy! See a doctor right away if you haven't already.

Very true. I've been the same way lately (I blame the heat). Today I had half a bologna and cheese sandwich and a banana.

There's a ten pound watermelon in the fridge and chicken thawing for the grill. Hope to jump-start the appetite tomorrow.

This is what I've been experiencing over the past 6-7 months...

- major loss of appetite. Seems to come back every few weeks, then eat nonstop for a few days then back to loss of appetite.

- Not sleeping properly. I've always been an isomniac, but even after I fell asleep, I would wake up after only a few hours and not be able to get back to sleep.

- Constant feeling of anxiousness, or something like that. Almost like butterflies in my stomach.

- Feeling sad. This is something that is usually not me. I'm the comedian type, even done some stand up stuff before. Usually a very happy person.

- Constant thoughts of things that piss you off, things that make you feel sad etc.

- I've actually came so close as to want to cry for no reason on one or two occassions.

These symptoms were really bad when this started happening. Things have gotten a lot better lately though. Also, when this started happening people noticed immediatly that I wasn't being myself.

Maybe a little exercise will jump start your appetite. You are welcome to play street hockey in the morning with us (10:30) if you want.

Heh, no thanx... that's way to early for me to even dream about being awake... and as for doing anything athletic, I get winded just running to the bathroom.

I think street hockey would just kill me.

You seem to be a pretty depressed person by the way you post. In person you seem pretty chipper though. I had to deal with my manic-depressive mom until she killed herself a couple years ago. If you think ever about "not living" and such, you really need to either get on some happy pills, or get out of the house as much as you can and keep yourself busy. I suggest going to a gym and just getting the "life" back in you with a workout plan. I know it sounds silly, but the lack of exercise can totally add to unhappy feelings.

I know you have some money, and if you ever wanna come mountain biking, renting one in Whistler is cheap. I also have a wagon to haul people up there with, so lemme know.

Take it easy!

It kills me every Sunday. I am by far the oldest and most out of shape playing but it makes me feel like a kid for a few hours (and then an old man the next couple of days from the soreness).

Anyway, if you want to relax your body and mind for a little bit any night, we can go to my condo's club and sit in the steam room, whirlpool, sauna so take me up on the offer somtime soon.

thanx for the offers guys, but trying to do something athletic and killing myself in the process probably won't really help my situation. More disappointment and failure is something I'm trying to avoid.

Also, waking up before 7 is definitely something I try to avoid.

At one point in my life I was starving (not by choice or psychological causes... I was just poor and couldn't feed myself). Went from 230lbs to 165lbs over the summer, and I was hungry every moment of every single day.

The issue isn't that your stomache stops telling you you're hungry (that never goes away), it's what your brain does when you're habitually short on freely burnable glucose to keep higher brain functions working properly. In a nutshell, when you starve, it fucks with your head. A LOT.

I'd look in a mirror and run my finger along my ribs, feeling the pain in my belly, smelling the sicky sweet smell on my breath of my body converting my muscle mass into ketones as a glucose substitute, and think "Good, the thinner I get, the less I'll need. The longer I go the longer I know I CAN go."

Eventually I got out of that pit, starting earning and getting food again, and started recovering from the nastiness that comes with an extended period of suboptimal nutrition... like severe muscle degredation, acid reflux so bad that it eroded away my molars, badly depressed immune system, et al.

... but I guarantee you this, if you stop eating, the only time you'll stop feeling hungry is the same moment you'd stop wanting air if you stop breathing: That moment when they put a white sheet over your face.

ALL classic symptoms of depression. Zoloft helped me.

I actually went to go see a doctor, had bloodwork done and all. Says I don't look like I'm depressed, lol. While he was looking at me he said I just don't look like the typical depressed person.

Reminds me of the old joke...
"What do they call they guy that graduates last in his med school class?"

"Doctor"

Your doctor is a fucking idiot. You are running down those syptoms for him and he tells you that you "don't LOOK depressed." WTF does depressed "LOOK" like? That statement is so fucking stupid he should have his license revoked. Find another physician.

Masked Man:

When's the last real vacation you took? I know I work 7 days a week, from my home office .. All the while telling myself "well shit 8 hours from home isn't a real job ..."

My point is I know a lot of us in this business, work too much. It's not healthy.

Don't be afraid to get away somewhere quiet. And no, I don't mean a show. Take it easy.

Hmm.. I don't remember having ever taken a vacation. But I have gone to a couple of conventions this year.
