Why are so many porn people dishonest?

I have been dealing with people in EVERY area of the porn business since around 2000 and inevitably come across dishonest scammers and back stabbers in every area. There is so much money to go around in this business. Any ideas on why people in it are so underhanded?

I think that's the reason for the most part. Copyrights are rarely enforced, no third party auditing of any sort, most of the people are in different jurisdictions, full or partial anonymity ... the list goes on.

That coupled with the anonymity on the internet. Its a shame because there are many respectable and honest people in the business that suffer because of others lack of professsionalism and ethics.


Scammers hurt themseleves the most in the long run though.

I wouldn't say there are more scammers in porn than any other business really.. well any other business that relies on trust that is. By trust I mean payment up front for services or merchandise.

Online business has that drawback, no one is going to do anything for you or send you anything without you paying first if they're smart.. so you take a chance right there no matter who you deal with online.

I think the trick is to be smart about who you do business with. That's why networking is so important, people get to know you and in the adult business especially, word about scammers spreads fast.

You're talking about the Internet side of porn not the whole porn industry. The reasons are many, but mainly because people running Internet sites are gullible and easily conned. They think it's some sort of club or frat house.

I'm not your friend, I'm a business man looking after number one, my company, I owe you nothing you owe me nothing, I don't trust you and you should not trust me.

But look at the way some carry on, sending money to guys who just picked up a camera, say they have a mailing list 1 million webmaster who all bought last week and letting any clown send traffic to yoursite, it could be kiddie porn traffic and get you banned by Visa or just a straight scam artist.

You all want to stop piracy of images. Who does something about it until they are told, who will put URLs on all their images? Which TGP sites will allow URLs on the images on their sites?

All scared you might lose a free loading surfer, because he has no intention of paying to see the proper image and the watermark is spoiling his stolen one.

And please do not start me off on 2257 hahahahahahahahas and licenses, I'll be here all night.

too many people are willing to call someone they have never met but just spent a month talking to online a "friend". that word is used too loosely in this biz. now combine that with the adult biz, where people feel they can scam and get away with it, where most business models were built by stealing someone else's idea (that someone else being called a "friend" at one point), throw in a couple of other factors that i am too tired to type out, and you have the perfect combination for being screwed over.

i am a firm believer that if you are going to do major business with a person (or any business for that matter), you meet that person face to face. a person you spent a year online talking to is NOT a friend but a loose aquaintance at BEST and if you choose to do business with someone you never met (you will know within 35 secs of meeting a person if they are trust worthy), then you should never be shocked if things go badly.

did you really believe any of the stuff that was said to you in a chatroom on aol back in the day? i would hope not. would you tend to believe and trust someone just a fraction more if you met in person? maybe/maybe not but at least you would have a solid feeling either way that would help make a more informed and safer decision (business wise).

for some reason, this industry brings out the worst in people more often then any other business. dont know why but i have noticed more and more bs towards fellow peers/colleagues/whatever you want to call them.

its not just in this business, its in ever business, and every online type business, you just dont deal with people outside porn but, i can tell you, for how ever many scammers there are in porn there is equal amount in the spamming biz, and others

I've found over the years that dishonesty, in the industry, is typically practiced to cover up a fundamental lack of knowledge and/or capabilities. Those who lie do so because they feel as if they can not compete on an equal footing with reputable individuals/service providers.

I don't think its that bad its just that one ytime out of ten you'll get fucked you remember but its just the price you pay for doing stuff on trust with people you only know online.

I like being able to do things fast and not create work for lawyers with contracts and paperwork and shit so you kinda have to accept it and just remember that scammers probably own't be around long so they are just fucking themselves over really.

in any and every industry there are scammers and dishonest people. remember way back in high school the kids who would cheat on tests...........well sadly those kids are *NOW* adults and there morals havent changed much still trying to cheat and take the easy route. what im trying to say is that we cant let those kind of people change our perception of the industry. this is prolly why so many people in this and many other industries do deals with there friends.......... just my

anytime I talk to people about being in the adult online industry and making money off of it they always say, ooh can you teach me how to do that, like its just a simple matter of a two or 3 step process. It infuriates me.
I've worked many hard jobs in my life and I have to say the online adult industry is one of the most time consuming work inducing ventures you can drop into. Its not something you just pick up overnight and if you want to get going in it with little out of pocket expense then you better be skilled in web design, graphic design, marketing theory, and be good with computers and ready to work long hours.
I think alot of the dishonesty comes from people in the business who are trying to take from those who they believe to have little or no knowledge of how this business actually runs. Preying upon the get rich quick seekers or the fast dollar players wanting in with as little work as possible. The eagerness of the uninformed breeds a subculture in the industry on those who would feed upon that lack of knowledge for their own monetary gains.
Just like any other industry that offers get rich quick schemes in the mainstream, there are just as many scammers in adult world as well.

I have to agree with Punker Barbie and, in addition, I prefer to do business with individuals in the adult industry because of the directness. In this indutsry, there tend to be less issues affecting business other than the bottom line. Can't say the same about mainstream,,,
