anyone recommend a good basic laser printer?

Not an inkjet rip off. They give them to ya so they can rape you for the ink.

I don't need fast, I need reliable.

QMS or OKI. I have some refurb QMS 2200 Desk Lasers if your interested.

I have had good luck with anything made by HP. Don't think you can go too wrong with any of their current models.

Stay away from Lexmark. (At least their colour lasers.) I have one that is so big and noisy that it's almost a joke. It shakes the whole desk everytime it spins the toner cartridges around.

I have the HP Color Laser and its works great, no issues and I get a ton of color prints out of it and don't have to spend $45 every five mins for an ink cartridge. The decision we made to go that route was a good one!
