Collecting Comic Books

In Junior High, and continuing for a few years in High School, I was very much into collecting comic books. Marvel titles were my favorite, although I did collect the Dark Knight limited series (Batman).

Last night I decided to see what some of the comics in my collection are selling for.... I went to the
Mile High Comics website and was happy to see that many of the comics in my collection are selling for $100 or more. I'm holding on to them for my son, who's now only 4 years old.

Surfing through their site brought back the excitement of buying comics again. I ended up buying over 100 issues I'm missing from one of my collections (my little lady doesn't know yet... shhhhhhhhhhh) !

I think I'll start collecting again. My income level is a little different now than it was before. I can buy some the expensive, rare books now. Anyone have Superman #1 ??

They never lose value as long as they are kept in good condition, i use to collect when i was a kid but, they are just as good as money 20 years from now they will be worth 4-5 times what they are worth now.

I collected at the height of the comic craze. Collected all of the Image titles like Spawn, etc.
I spent like $35 per week on comics back then (early 90's)
lol

Oh speaking of that, anyone interested in a crap load of comics, Mainly DC and Marvel. Early to mid nineties, all bagged. Several ashcan #0 pre-releases, some signed stuff, factory sealed issues etc. Selection of undergound titles and smaller publishers as well.

Ummm no I am not going to make a list there is to many.

I've got around 2000 left... used to be a comic book dealer when I was in high school. LOL

My dad used to advertise in every comic book in the 70's so he ended up with one copy of everything printed, that's how I got started.

Unfortunately no Golden Age, very little Silver Age... but a lot of Bronze age (70's) still left over, bagged, in boxes in my basement.

I'd love to own both of the comics in the first paragraph.

The answer to the second paragraph is "Yes, I'm interested".

I've got about 5,000 boxed and baged in the basement and some framed in my games room. Great cover art.

Donovan, don't forget that if you sell comics the buyer usually gives a much reduced price than the current market price.

Buy what you read and read what you buy.

I have the first series of Mortal Kombat comics (early 90's I think), but I doubt that's worth anything... I can't find all my other older comics

I collected comics back in the day. I never was a big Marvel or DC fan, mainly collected more underground type stuff. I have a few nice graphic novels too, a set of hardcover color Akira books I picked up at a flea market for $25 a piece and later saw them selling (when I could find them) for $100+ each.

My favoraite stuff now is the Heavy Metal mag artists, like Richard Corben. Unfortunately usually either a) the story is good or b) the art is amazing, but rarely both.

When I started using ebay I almost went on a comic book buying spree. Now I don't search anything related to comics

Heh. Mile High Comics charges the highest prices in the industry. They are basically the last resort of a lot of completist collectors, as they have basically everything but the charge above guide for it.

Also, Mile High Comics buys collections in bulk, probably paying about 1 cent each for books they turn around and sell for an average of $3 each. If you want realistic values for what a collector can get for a comic, check out Ebay.

Yea I collect them as well.
What's interesting over last few years is the use of CGC. Or grading them....."ok...your mint Spidy #1 is a 4.3/10"....then the official graders seal them in plastic......

I've got a copy of Superman #4 in one of my stores if you're interested. It's CGC graded 6.5, light restoration.

$1600.

We've got some other gold and silver age comics if there's something specific you're looking for.

The Simpsons comics are usually a good read, especially the Halloween specials. Tarot is...umm...pretty to look at. Not much story there really.

I left them in my parents attic and when they sold the house threw them all away

I was all about team books. X-Men, JLA, Titans, X-anything, Avengers. Anything George Perez drew I bought.

All sitting in a city dump somewhere.

I was a comic book fan until the local supermarket stopped stocking them on their spinner rack a few years ago. I didn't spend much, maybe around $25-$50 a month. Whenever I went on road trips with a friend and hit the comic shop, I would walk out with double that. Of course, our trips become infrequent since my friend settled down (married and two kids). I could mail order the comics but I usually pick up my favorite titles and browse the stuff I never seen.

Most of my comics are from the 1980s and 1990s with a few from 1970s. I had a bunch from the 1970s when I first started but my mother made me trade with my cousin. I had about five big boxes of mostly super-hero and monster comics and all I got in return was one medium-size box of army comics. I read them and then took them to a thrift store. To top it off, my comics were in fair shape but my cousin's comics had loose covers and torn pages. If I had a time machine, I would go back and tell myself not to listen to my mother (or better yet, take those five boxes away from my cousin after the trade).

Who says comic books are just for kids? It's us adult who enjoys them more!

I always wanted to make my own comic but theres no money in it now. So I'm looking into making a cartoon and looking at software.

So far I only checked out Toon Boom. IT was ok but not that great.

I've still got a whole bunch of cool collectible Razor stuff 'cause I had the inside line Watchmen, Crow, Nexus, Badger, Ronin, and a lot of #1's of books which never went any where. I didn't like all the stuff where I was tuning in in the middle and missing part of the story, so I bought a ridiculous number of first issues for a while there. One of my biggest disappointments ever was that I was asked to hahahahaha a couple of Crow issues right before Kitchen Sink blew up and it never came to pass.
