Anyone tried NutriSystem?

I'm thinking of trying this less than $10 a day all meal deliveredto your door, heat & eat..

I think it would be easier for me to lose 20 lbs. this way than other diets because I love to cook. I eat more while cooking than I do when I sit down to eat. I am a gastronome who can't resist all the wonderful, beautiful foods at the grocery.Combine this with a partner who has no need/desire to lose weight and that makes it difficult to maintain any diet where I shop and prepare the food myself. I am thinking
of trying nutrisystem to keep me out of the kitchen. We go to family and friends a lot for dinner, this makes it easy to carry what I'm eating instead of trying to pick my way around the "bad" foods on my plate.

Anyone tried it? What do you think?

10 years ago I weighed 150 lbs (I'm 102 now, but I'm very short so it's a healthy weight) and nutri-system was around back then (minus the delivery option).... I lost and then gained it all right back. The KEY is learning to diet using the entire food pyramid and not depriving yourself of carbs, fats, proteins. Once you get use to balancing the meals on your own, it is like second nature to eat in the "diet zone" and not even realize you are doing so.... it's effortless. I have so many recipes I could send you that are simple, cheap and quick. I cook up huge meals, portion them out and eat them throughout the week and atleast I know exactly what is in them. I'll be the first to admit that you CAN diet off the weight without exercise because I did it, but now that I'm in my thirties and just got hooked on working out, I suggest a combo of both.

Either way, goodluck...... There is nothing more rewarding than seeing small changes in your body as you work off the lbs or try to gain muscle.

Try this diet, a penpal lost 7 pounds in 10 days on it:

Breakfast:
-1/2 grapefruit or juice (unsweetened)
-2 eggs
-2 slices of bacon

Lunch:
-1/2 grapefruit or juice (unsweetened)
-salad with any dressing
-meat any style any amount

Dinner:
-1/2 grapefruit or juice (unsweetened)
-meat, any style any amount (fish may be substituted)
-vegetable, any green or red (cook in butter or any seasoning)

Bedtime:
-glass of tomato juice or skim milk

Instructions: (omg theres so much to type LOL)
1) at any meal you may eat until you are full
2) don't skip bacon at breakfast or omit salads, it is the combo of foods that burn fat
3) the grapefruits important b/c it acts as a catalyst that starts the burning process
4) cut down on coffee it affects the insulin balance that hinders the burning process... limit 3 per day
5) DO NOT EAT BETWEEN MEALS, if you eat the combo of foods suggested you will NOT be hungry (and I can assure you guys of this.. I am never craving anything or hungry ever!)
6) DO NOT eat desserts, breads, white veggies or sweet potatoes. You may double or triple helpings of meat, salad or veggies. Eat as much as you want. The more you eat of the proper combinations of food the more you will lose! (crazy huh)

Notes:
1) the diet completly eliminates sugars and starches which are lipids and form dat. Fat does NOT form fat. It helps burn it so you can fry foods in butter and use butter generously on veggies. NOT MARGARINE, but butter (Fabio haha "I can't believe it's not butter")
2) you can lose 10lbs in 10 days. There will be no loss the first 4 days, but you will lose 5lbs on the 5th day! Thereafter you will lose 1 1/2 lbs every 2 days until you are at your desired weight.
3) All soft drinks need to be diet and caffiene free
4) you may NOT have white onions potatoes or celery
5) you MAY have red onions, brocolli, lettuce, tomatoes, beil peppers (sorry its hard to read off the paper..poor copy quality-- BEIL PEPPERS??? lol), green onions, cabbage, radishes, spinach and carrots

IMPORTANT Stay on diet for 12 days and stop dieting for 2 days

I lost 30 lbs on Atkins a few yers ago, but gained it all back after I quit smoking...
I can't go back on Atkin's due to a diagnosis of hypoglycemia..Nutrusystem follows a healhty glycemic index ..I already take benefiber everyday for my digestive troubles, if i removed all fiber in the forms of carbohydrates I don't think that would be good...

Hi m00d

I thought I would chime in here - I too used NutriSystem about 10 years ago and lost a lot of weight. Of course, I believe with the food I ate I was only eating less then 1,000 calories a day and that is not healthy. I was basically starved into losing the weight. I was happy with the results but as soon as I got back onto the maintainence part of it I started to gain it back. I have learned something this past 10 years- maintaining your weight is really a way a life- you really need to change your whole way of eating and thinking about food for it to work.

I have been eating a low carb diet for the past three years and was able to lose the weight and maintain a lower weight by avoiding the starches and sugars. I think once you discover what works for you you will know it and should stick with it.

Good luck - it's never easy but very worth it when you reach your goal.

Thanks for your input..I get to choose the calories a day with nutrisystem, and I would not set it below 1300, probably more like 1500...I think it might help me break some of the new habits I've formed since qqitting smoking, like snackin gin front of the tv or when hanging out with friends..I used to smoke in those situations..

Nutri system food is gross. Unless they have had major improvements in the last year, most of it is tasteless. I tried some at my friends house and was horrified.

Try drinking more water, cutting carbs and sweets, but let yourself have a little something here and there, otherwise binge eating gets to you.

Also take the stairs, turn off the tv and take a walk, when parking park far away in the parking lot.
