50 cheap designers!
|
truth is around us...
|
lol.. funny thread.
media - You will never talk sense into these guys. They feel the only reason they are booked is beacuse of their low prices, not the quality of their work. Until they start believing in their own work, they will never raise their prices! |

thing is in branding and location its hard to get 1k-2k per paysite, even if u have good design quality, but u are located in asia or former ussr and your company is young in the market |

great idea! |
As some people said, today´s market is Global, oversaturated, and there are high school kids offering crap, as well as talented teams offering high end tours.
This is not new though, it happened to all markets and is now happening strongly in the adult online biz. Do you people know how many hundreds of companies, full blown industries closed doors because of Chinese products? Its completely possible that this will happen in this industry as well. The only thing we (all quality companies in the biz) can do is strive for the best, day in, day out. Product leadership, stellar customer service.... aim for the best customer experience ever, and you will have your client base, no doubt about it. Give him the best ROI you can possibly give and they will remember that on the next time they need work done. "Joe´s Burgershop" didn´t close all restaurants in the world just because he charges 25 cents for a burger. Some people want to offer their clients suculent, delicious steaks. :thumbsup Bruno Dickman |
what everyone else said! =D
no but, i always thought a standardized pricing structure would be cool in the design industry but no one would ever stick to it so its pointless =) basically though, if i feel the quality of what i can do is worth more than what someone else charges, i'll keep my price what it is and explain to the possible customer what the benefits are with getting a design from me. a kia and a beamer are both cars but thats where it ends =) |

I just got pissed at seeing so much whoring going on.. So I decided to step up and say something.. I am happy it got alot of responses though.. |
Nice Post... :thumbsup
Actually I've always tried to keep my prices as high as I can, but I do deal for my regulars.. What's pisses me off is the guy who is calling you for a small job, so you say Ok it will take about 5 hours and I want $XXX and at the end he wants this and that and this and that so you work on the same project for double the time... IT is ALWAYS a small job cause they want a SMALL price, but in their mind thay want a full mega site... :2 cents: |
Well here's my take on this.
When I first started doing galleries I ran a special. This was to get people interested in my work and to give me an opportunity they might not have otherwise. I did not keep that price and raised it to a normal rate quickly after...in fact I set the introductory price offer to a limited number of clientele. As I've developed a client base I've been able to raise my prices over the last 6 months. I'm at a point now where I feel comfortable knowing I'm getting paid what I'm worth *as far as gallery design is concerned*. I am still willing to work out bulk rates, but some people are still expecting for me to drop my rates to unbelievable levels just because they think their order of 20 deserves it when I have clients who book me at 100-200 galleries at higher rates...much higher. I understand the thinking that some people go through tho'. You get concerned there won't be enough jobs to keep you booked...and with the amount of new people that continue to show up the competition gets more fierce....but I seem to get by...as the old saying goes one door closes another opens...and that always seems to be the case :) |
ya well.. i felt the same way when i paid content providers like 20k for all of their content, then they do a blowout for like 2k$ and everyone has it.

Someone who sells a paysite with $ 100 and makes good quality work can earn more than a lazy $ 600 US designer :) .. Working more .. of course .. but who is afraid of work these days ? If you would took some economy classes you would know that demand and supply meet at different prices according with the disproportion between them. So .. if the supply is bigger then demand, the price will fall. No one asks you to give rates according to the market, but if you don't come with a marketing strategy you will eventually dissapear. After all .. why shall the customer pay for you huge fixed costs when he can have the same quality at lower prices ? |
third world country designers make it pretty hard for other designers in the porn industry, but this is similar in most online business.

but never give up! |
Well, i think that depending on where you live you can set up some prices or others, and keep the higth quality.
For an US or European designer is not profitable work for low prices, but imagene a chinese, a philipin, a corean, ect... All their are really good on their works and some dollars are a lot of money on their countries. Btw... I think that new designer sometimes set up a lower prices at the beginning and when they have a name then they raise. It's not easy start on a business that you must compete with some big guys. |
