Two women were in the waiting room of an obstetrician and each of them was knitting a sweater for their baby-to-be.

One stopped and takes a pill.

"What was that?" asks the other.

"Oh, it was Vitamin C - I want my baby to be healthy."

She takes another pill.

"What was that?"

"Oh, it was iron - I want my baby to be big and strong."

She takes another pill.

"What was that?"

"Thalidomide. I just can't get the arms right on this fucking sweater!

Thalidomide is a drug that women took in the 60's for morning sickness that caused horrible birth defects like no arms or grotesquely shortened limbs.

Thalidomide, which was developed in the 1950s to prevent nausea during pregnancy but was found to produce fetal limb abnormalities, has been found to inhibit replication of the AIDS virus and to heal canker sores in patients with AIDS and other conditions. Thalidomide is used for treatment some symptoms of Hansen's disease, or leprosy.

It's quite simple really. Whatever the mother-to-be is taking, she must always remember that it will affect her baby, whether it be good or bad. Which is why getting pregnant is never easy!
