California State Task Force To Enforce Condom Use?

well if this happens it will be useless unless the penalty for non-compliance is big money and/or jail time cuz nobody will comply.

from ********.com http://www.********.com/read.aspx?ID=3235

Dr. Peter Kerndt, director of the sexually transmitted disease program for the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, said regulations won't drive "the big boys" underground.

"You don't live in fear of what could be driven underground."

Kerndt said officials take the outbreak seriously and see unsafe practices in the adult film industry as posing health dangers to the general population.

"We're concerned about this, because it has the potential, unchecked, to spread rapidly to their partners apart from their industry partners," he said.

Kerndt said a state-county task force has drafted a plan that would make condom use mandatory by forcing production companies to comply with a California Occupational Safety and Health Administration injury and illness prevention plan or face closure.

"We want to bring this industry into the mainstream by putting it under the regulations that currently exist for Cal-OSHA. This would be a model for the rest of the country."

Funny how you've got one state wanting to regulate condom use, and other states where vibrators are against the law.

Go figure.

would this mean random OSHA compliance checks?

OSHA is not something to fuck with, they got on my brick n mortar store once and would not leave without finding things to fine me for.

Looks like they wanna drive up the cost of production.

Sure, why not, makes sense, but for a global industry that moves as fast as it does, what he is saying describes pretty much a death sentence to PornValley economy and effectively cause disease to spread faster as people move shop to different area's with no testing.

Kneejerk decisions and half thought plans over a bottle Jack Daniel's is not gonna cut it.

Exactly dude, what will happen is fine after fine after fine and investigation after investigation till your out of business. Effectively that plan is one to kill out the business in Los Angeles at large if not statewide.

Aren't most porn actors contractors anyway? A good employment attorney could argue that they don't fall under OSHA or any other employee rules if so.

They could VERY easily set up shop in Pahrump, Nevada about an hour outside of Las Vegas....
Prostitution is LEGAL there, so of course shooting porn would be as well.

Oh yeah, sure.
Like a $0.75 condom is going to break any production company's back.
Get real.

You obviously do not understand OSHA compliancy standards.
This might look like a good move on paper but there would be a long term effect.

I really do not know if it would be good or bad tomake content producers OSHA compliant. Such a thing would definatly make for better work conditions though.

On another note yeah...
.75 Cents per condom? I can see that getting expensive for production companies that do alot of work

.75 cents is the cost of pressing a single DVD in the print process!

Don't get me wrong I am all for cleaning of the industry so that people are healthy and perform safely however face the facts that alot of people don't give a fuck and will just move else where.

Which is not such a bad thing either until they start producing in area's without regulations and safety comes to zero for performers.

In all honesty I rather pass a buck with company that actually keeps things clean and compliant with the health needs of its performers but I do know like everyone else my own preference will not halt others from having different morals.

(NEVADA) "State law requires that registered brothel prostitutes are checked weekly for several sexually transmitted diseases and monthly for HIV; furthermore, condoms are mandatory for all oral sex and sexual intercourse. Brothel owners are held liable if customers become infected with HIV after a prostitute has tested positive for the virus (NRS 041.1397)."
