After thinking about this all last night, I feel I must post. Orgasmics, just because you had a tough childhood does not make you better than anyone else!

Like you, I was kicked out at a young age. No, I was not pregnant BUT I was much younger than you; I was 14. Were you homeless? I was, for months, and too young to get a job. Even when you are old enough to get a job, most places (including McDonald's) won't hire you if you don't have a phone number. You can't rent a hotel or an apartment legally when under 18 either. Some of these girls who turn 18 and start doing porn may have been hooking on the street and see porn as a step up. I know strippers who started stripping when they were underage and who knows how many were hooking (since nobody asks for ID). Keep in mind, when you're a minor you have a lot less options. Their lifestyle "choice" may have been from a survival standpoint and not their desired occupation. You don't know the individual circumstances for everyone else.

You and I must both have very strong personalities to have survived through our shitty childhoods. It's wonderful that both of us have turned out so healthy, considering. But for you to act superior because you are a surviver is total bullshit. I'm a survivor too, but I'm also intelligent enough to know that even my own sisters wouldn't have been able to survive what I've lived through.

Without knowing the circumstances for everyone else, we cannot honestly say that we would have made different choices. I'm a stickler for safe sex and can't imagine ever having unprotected sex outside of a serious relationship.

Think about all the possible "What if" scenereos. What if I were an 18 years old single mom living day-to-day in a seedy motel with a 2 year old baby to take care of, maybe I would do unprotected sex porn to have money to feed my child. I'm sure the production companies assure their talent that the testing makes them safe and most mothers would give their own lives to save their child's. Many people will also sacrifice their future lives for a better present life.

Most porn production companies DO tell their talent that the testing will keep them safe from catching HIV. When you're young, you're much more naive and more likely to believe people. With how few HIV cases there have been in the porn community it totally makes sense that young new talent would believe what they're told.

Michelle, your point about prevention of HIV is valid, yes.... but this issue is also about the laws of supply and demand. The demand for bareback porn has always far outweighed the demand for condom porn. Don't shoot me here, that's just the way it is, as any large porn production/distribution company would confirm.

Since bareback porn isn't going anywhere, the strict testing that should be in place really is the only line of defense the industry has. Had the people in this case been using condoms they may have saved lives, yes..... but there is also the question of who wasn't properly tested as well.


I think that some strictly enforced rules need to be in place. One might be that if a performer works "bareback" once, then they have to work in "condom-only" for several weeks until they can get their next reliable test results back. Then they get the green light to work in bareback again. Those that go work in high-risk countries should be put in quarrantine upon their return home, for at least a month, after which they get..... you guessed it... TESTED.

It's not the end-all be-all answer, but it is at least something. It's at least something more than what is in place now. Both production and performers need to start fucking CARING about each other (and the industry as whole), and making sure strict guidelines are enforced 100%, not just some of the time.

And here we go again.... back to the testing issue. Quarantine for a month is NOT enough. In many cases, it takes over a month to test positive, even though it can still be transmitted to others. This is why testing is such a small piece of the solution. Testing isn't reliable... not when Joe can fuck an infected chick in March and test negative in April, May, June, July.... during all those months, he's infecting people.

Back to the demand. While there is demand, of course, there are going to be people that are willing to take the risk. But with that risk and extra cash, there may be a price to pay. They need to be ready to pay the price if and when that time comes... and they do not deserve to be declared an innocent victim.
