"Daddy, Do You Want Jesus In Your Heart?"

I once had a similar conversation with my son that I posted on GFY. Just recently he asked me again.

Here's the screen play:

Time: 8:00am
DP is at his ex-wife's house. Ex-wife is not home. DP's 4 YEARS OLD son has just awakened. Son walks down the stairs and into the bathroom. He then walks out of the bathroom and takes DP's hand (literally 5 minutes after waking up).

SON: Daddy, come over here and sit down.
DADDY: Okay buddy.

Son climbs onto daddy's lap on the couch. Son looks into daddy's eyes with a very serious look on his face.

SON: Daddy, do you want to have Jesus in your heart?
DADDY (amused): How about you, buddy? Do you want to have Jesus in your heart?
SON: I already do, dad.
SON: So, do you?

Daddy smiles and looks at his son, saying nothing.

SON: Well ask him then!

And that is what happens when a 4 year old's mommy takes him to church all the time and tells him that his daddy needs Jesus.

Amusing, yet somehow sad.

I hear ya Donovan, hopefully reality and life will offer him a mix of good choices for him to live with. Just be the best example that you can and discuss alternatives with him.

You're ex may make you look like the anti-christ but the child will remember what his daddy talked to him about.

Luck,

P.S.

Better still, take him fishing. That's where the gods really live.

I think Buddha, Allah, Mohammed, Yahwei and especially Peter get together once a year for a fishing trip in Canada once a year don't they?

I treat him like a king and talk to him well above his level. He's a smart kid. He'll figure things out for himself when the time comes. For now I'm just making sure not to contradict what mommy teaches him... no use confusing him when he's so young.

Catholic church? If I had a 4 year old boy I wouldn't let him within a mile of one of those.

that's too much. I don't think religion should be forced on anyone, it's sad to see kids brainwashed.

This is what keeps this BS alive and has for thousands of years.

Definitely not Catholic. Protestant (Assembly of God) which really isn't that much better.

As for him being brainwashed... I'll do everything in my power to make sure he isn't "forced" to believe anything. I just think 4 years old is a little too young for deep religious discussion.

Don't patronize him, kids are amazingly smart, just talk to him as plainly as you feel you can about how you actually feel about it. Don't express anger at your ex, kids can't process that kind of emotion well, just say that this isn't your philosophy and belief.

Anyway, sounds intense, good luck and all.

Smart choice, he'll figure it all out one day and have a lot of respect for you later for being straight with him.

Now thats a real daddy. You are putting your sons welfare above your own ego. Sounds so simple but not many can do this. I applaud you for this!

Mao knew that it was critically important to get the kids when they were young. Organized relligion knows that, as well.

Son..Do you want food in your stomach?
Does Mommy want a roof over her head?
Does Mommy like those clothes she has on her back?
Do you like it when I pay for all of your extracurricular activities?
Will Mommy pay for things with her job like I do with mine?
Who has more money? Me or Mommy?
Is Mommy paying for that cable television so you can watch cartoons?
etc. etc. etc..

All my EX-wife did was enjoy the fruits of my labor and then turn around and bitch about it all of the time...She always had her hand out..She always liked to lie on the couch and watch the hundreds of channels that I paid for..She loved to talk on the phone and run up long distance that I paid for..She loved the fact that she didn't even have to work...But she still BITCHED day and night about what I did and how "immoral" I was living..

Then in the divorce proceedings, she tried to take my children away from me because I did porn but on the flip side, I wasn't allowed to sell or destroy my business because she wanted to reap the profits off of it...She even had the AUDACITY to try to claim half ownership in my porn biz!

That's why she's my ex-wife now. Lives with her mother and gets up and goes to work EVERY day and she will always go until she tricks another sucker to support her but for now it's her mother.

more sad than amusing, religion is ok but it is not the endall of everything.
There has been much bullshit surrounding the church for thousands of years i think the current state of the world is proof that we all need to beleive something yet are stuck in diff belive blocks, and then shortly after comes religious war lol...

As if Religion "A" is more correct then Religion "B"...

I would honestly, try and seek custody of my child and tell the judge the woman is a lunatic.

Ask him if he has ever heard of Ed gein,. and tell him this woman is drilling christ into his head like that, and you fear for his afety.

Bring up this lady: http://www.cnn.com/2004/LAW/03/29/children.slain/

she killed her kids because God Told her To!

tell the judge you fear your ex wife is some jesus sicko and get your child away from her, while you still can.

i would NOT allow this to go on if it was my child.

no way.

i forgot the winky ;) in my post

didnt mean to sound so harsh on this one, but i firmly am against people putting religion into kids heads because they take it word for word as an absolute and its the foundations of brainwashing.

kids take in what you tell them, and when parents begin filling a childs head up with this jesus shit it scares me.

i would not want to see my chld introduced to such lies at an early age.

good luck Donny i know you are a great dad in a weird situation.

Fletch:

If my ex-wife wasn't the perfect mother I would attempt to gain full custody instead of 50/50 custody as I have now. However, this woman really should be awarded "World's Greatest Mother". I can't say enough how incredible she is with my son.

The religious part: she takes him to church, gets him involved in kid's groups, etc. She truly believes what she teaches him. She has no doubts about it. BUT she is not one of those people that teaches you that God's going to send you to eternal torment.

She's very compassionate. If you saw the "Passion of the Christ" movie and you saw how Jesus behaved, I'd have to tell you that she does her best to be just like that. She tries hard not to be judgemental. She tries hard to love everyone.

My son learns more by her example than by what she teaches him. If you had a mother like his you'd believe every word she told you as well. Not because she's shoving it down your throat, but because she is living what she tells you and letting you be your own person.

Right now he's only 4 years old, but as he grows older she'll let him be whoever he wants to be. We've talked about this for hours, and I believe it 100%.

I hear ya man.

I just dont know how I would act in a situation.

Seriously, the way I view christianity, it would be as if someone were telling my child the earth is flat, when we all know its not.

I dont know how I could address it being me..

I mean, shit, at 4 and hes already asking you about jesus in your heart? He should be asking about going have some fun with you instead!
