Ok, I'm gonna go shopping for a pair of diamond earings for my gf's birthday that is in 2 weeks. I wanna get a nice set but not something to big that will hurt her ears or anything like that. Any ideas on what I should look for? I've never bought them before so thought I would ask.

something little, decent, elegant, maybe white gold?
It's hard man to give you advice I don't know what she likes....

The better the gold, the less likely she is to be allergic or sensitive to it, if she has sensitive skin.
Best thing to do is ask her friends.email: [email protected]Comment

im being honest and a total girlie when i say it depends if she has a long neck or not. (silly i know but im serious)
if she does, long elegant earing look great!!!!!
if she doesnt, studs look awesome. Maybe something with a little diamond and rubies to add some color
Hope that helps..... Good Luck!!!!Last edited by punker barbie; 04-16-2004, 10:43 AM.Chaturbate Affiliate Support: [email protected]Comment

I was thinking white gold also from pics that I have seen. Will just have to see what they look like in person. What do yout think for size is 1/2 karat alright? I know nothing about this stuff heh.Originally posted by Lucy

True, I've thought about this also but not even sure if her roommate could keep quite about it.Originally posted by Elli

You're buying her diamond earrings and she doesn't even live with you? Must be nice.Originally posted by Sosa

Nice doesn't enter into it. Buying her flowers would be "nice." Buying her diamonds says something completely different.Originally posted by Sosa

It's really simple...
first you look to see what color of jewlery she tends to wear the most - gold or silver (go with white gold instead of silver to get away from the tarnish problem)
second - stay away from long danglies etc etc, they are special occasion earrings and useless for every day use. (Office - working girls with long danglies or too fancy of jewelry tend to get labeled)
third, stay with a stud type... look at what she has stonewise to see if she prefers one cut over another... marquis versus princess etc (you don't need to know the cut 'name' just see what shape it is and tell the jeweler, they will know)
fourth... no more than 1/4 ct per ear. 1/3 ct if you can find them are plenty large enough... 1/4 ct would be just as nice. Get them too big and you are back to the same place as the danglies... too gaudy looking. And if you go out to bars, a loss of a large stone is hard to swallow financially... you want to stay in the range that can be replaced withuot mortgaging the farm.
The trick is, you want a pair that will go just as well with jeans as they would with a nice evening gown.<center><a target="_blank" href="http://dev.datedollars.com/index.php?s=signup&aid=535&cfg=aac"><img border="0" src="http://216.130.172.224/gfy/gsig.gif" width="490" height="100"></a><br><a href="http://dev.datedollars.com/index.php?s=signup&aid=535&cfg=aac" target="_blank"><b><font face="Arial"><font color="#FF99FF"> Buy me away from Slavedriver Smokey!<br>It's May Sig Sweeps!<font></b></center>Comment

OK-every girl loves, and must have diamond studs. They are awesome for a number of reasons...they go with everything, they can be dressy, or look great with a t-shirt and jeans.
This is one case of ,bigger isn't necessarily better. They really need to sparkle because they can be hidden under hair etc.
I have one's that are 1/2 carat a piece..and they are just the right size.
Go get em'-she'll love them!SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.Comment

When I started making a little money I bought myself 3/4 ct platinum studs. I wear them everyday. They are simple enough to be worn with jeans but pretty enough to wear for evening. They are definitely big enough that they get noticed if that is what you are looking for. I get comments from other woman all the time!Comment

I think a 1/2 k will be perfect...although go with white gold or platinum...I think it compliments almost every skin tone...most of all, just make sure you two have a wonderful time on her birthday!!!Comment

.5 carat each of a high quality stone is pricey. they should be studs cause they just become a part of you. i just got a pair that each are a .5 carat in total but they are 6 individual diamonds layed out to look like a flower. i luv them. FYI best place to buy studs for a killer price is St Thomas

As mentioned, it's the posts/metal that irritate the ear. Unless you've got some major cash, I doubt you'd buy diamonds that would be heavy enough to cause problems. Just make sure they're set in white/yellow gold or platinum.
The size really depends on how much money you're wanting to spend and the quality of the diamonds. I'd say get the biggest you can afford.
But I'd try and get at least 1/4 - 1/2 carat per ear. And remember - if they tell you they're 1/2 carat, that probably means each earring is 1/4 carat. Be sure to ask the size of each individual earring.
I wouldn't do dangling or colored stones. If you want something that's really pretty, get a different cut on the diamonds. I have a pair that are 3/4 carat each, platinum set, and they're radiant cut. They're gorgeous and I wear them almost everyday. I have a round pair but hardly ever put them on because I like the others so well. Have one of the sales girls try on some radiant, emerald, and princess cuts and see what you think.
This is what mine look like. The picture honestly doesn't do them justice.War National Damn Champions EagleComment

Half carat is a good size , white gold is HOT right now and hypoallergenic..Originally posted by Sosa

I would have to say though maybe you really might want to get her like ruby or sapphire earrings with some little diamonds around them or flanking them..those add color and she would be sure to love them..

A half carat or more per earring is ridiculous for a guy his age (21 if you bother to check his bio) to be buying for ANYone but his Mom. Platinum would also be ruled out due to the cost.
If he marries the girl and is with her in 5 yrs (in the same house and bed) then he can go to that size. lol
Buying something that would run in excess of $500 could bring some nasty relations in a breakup.
Put a $300 +/- cap on it Sosa. the size difference between 0,5 carat and 1 carat is very slim...maybe 1,5 mm...but the price is 6 times as muchOriginally posted by Sosa

i'd say go with 2x 0,5 / 0,6 carat earring..take a color F / G as they are still colorless. A color D is unaffordable and you can't tell with the bare eye
Also, just pick a VS1 / VS2 or even a I1 . Wich means they are slightly damaged (from within, black spots). Still , the damaged part on a VS1 can only be seen by magnifying the diamond 30 times
I picked up a nice pair of 0,5 carat (each) earring for just $600..killer price and they look awesome

i agree with Gemini's comment...take it easy. It's the gesture itself that's the most important not the size of the stonesOriginally posted by Gemini

Half carat total weight is more what I meant on my post , yet still I think that a ruby or sapphire set offset by some diamond chips would be sweeter... but thats just my taste maybe, ;)<img src=http://members.aol.com/sexualdiva1/melseyz.jpg> MelaniaComment

I almost always do this BUT have the size mentioned ahead of time. Nothing wreaks this approach more then having her try on something you had no intention of shelling out for.Originally posted by Cyborg 2.0

thats tough because it all depends on your girl and the settings of the earrings. Still, if this girl is really important to you I'd make sure to pick up at least a carat total wgt.Comment
