Has bombing suspicious objects by the police become common in the US after 9/11?

sorry for the double post..
something got fucked up
here's what I wanted to say:
In Israel, it has already become an ordinary routine. Somebody calls the police and tells about some suspicious bag or something that in most cases was just forgotten by someone on the street. Then if they actually find the object suspicious, there's this little robot they send to shoot at it several times.
I just happened to witness another such event yesterday, and I was wandering if this is the way it is done in other countries as well these days, and if this is as common as it is here -
Throw a stick at the "Suspicious Bag". It works just as good

I don't know if they are blowing them up more or if it's just reported a little more noisily on the news. Some robots have xray things on them to look inside the package, some just gently open the pkg if possible.
If they can't determine what it is, they'll put it in a bomb trailer and detonate it either onsite or take it somewhere if they think its safe to transport.
And we still have the 'kewpie' doll suits for the bomb people where they actually handle it themselves. Talk about God, Guts and Glory!
99.999% of the time it turns out to be someones laundry, office papers, groceries or the like.
I've wondered about how someone feels when they see their dirty skivvies blown 50' into the air on the news...

well yesterday I've seen it with my own eyes, that the robot was shooting at the bag... I think it was like 10 bullets before the police let everything go on its wayOriginally posted by Gemini
