Are you ready to die for Bush - I mean your country?

Mandatory Draft Coming-Soon

From: Sophie Lapaire <[email protected]>
http://educate-yourself.org/cn/manda...g19mar04.shtml
March 19, 2004

I rarely send a mail to a large audience, but the possibility of mandatory drafting for boys and girls (age 18-26) starting June 15 2005, is something, I
believe, everyone should know. This litteraly affects EVERYONE since we all have or know children that will have to go if this bill passes.

If there are children in your family, READ this.

There is pending legislation in the House and Senate (twin bills: S 89 and HR 163) which will time the program's initiation so the draft can begin at early as Spring 2005 -- just after the 2004 presidential election. The administration is quietly trying to get these bills passed now, while the public's attention is on the elections, so our action on this is needed immediately. Details and links follow.

Even those voters who currently support us. Actions abroad may still object to this move, knowing their own children or grandchildren will not have a say about whether to fight. Not that it should make a difference, but this plan, among other things, eliminates higher education as a shelter and includes women in the draft
--
Also, crossing into canada has already been made very difficult.

Actions, actions, actions:
P please send this on to all the parents and teachers you know, and all the aunts and uncles, grandparents, godparents.... And let your children know -- it's their future, and theycan be a powerful voice for change!

Please also hahahahaha to your representatives to ask them why they aren't telling their constituents about these bills -- and hahahahaha to newspapers and other media outlets to ask them why they're not covering this important story.

The draft

$28 million has been added to the 2004 selective service system (sss) budget to prepare for a military draft that could start as early as June

15, 2005. Selective Service must report to Bush on March 31, 2005 that the system, which has lain dormant for decades, is ready for activation. Please see website: www.sss.gov/perfplan_fy2004.html to view the sss annual performance plan - fiscal year 2004.

The pentagon has quietly begun a public campaign to fill all 10,350 draft board positions and 11,070 appeals board slots nationwide.. Though this is an unpopular election year topic, military experts and influential members of congress are suggesting that if Rumsfeld's prediction of a "long, hard slog" in Iraq and Afghanistan [and a permanent state of war on "terrorism"] proves accurate, the U.S. may have no choice but to draft.

http://www.informationclearinghouse....rticle5146.htm www.sss.gov/perfplan_fy2004.html

Congress brought twin bills, S. 89 and HR 163 forward this year, http://www.hslda.org/legislation/nat...89/default.asp entitled
the Universal National Service Act of 2003, "to provide for the common defense by requiring that all young persons [age 18--26] in the United States,
including women, perform a period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes." These active bills currently sit in the committee on armed services.

Dodging the draft will be more difficult than those from the Vietnam era. College and Canada will not be options. In December 2001, Canada
and the U.S. signed a "smart border declaration," which could be used to keep would-be draft dodgers in. Signed by Canada's minister of foreign
affairs, John Manley, and U.S. Homeland Security director, Tom Ridge, the declaration involves a 30-point plan which implements, among other
things, a "pre-clearance agreement" of people entering and departing each country. Reforms aimed at making the draft more equitable along gender and class lines also eliminates higher education as a shelter. Underclassmen would only be able to postpone service until the end of their current semester.
Seniors would have until the end of the academic year.

WHAT TO DO:

- Tell all your friends

- Call the Mercury News (Newsdesk) 408-920-5000

-E-mail the SF Chronicle at: [email protected]

- Contact your Senators and tell them to oppose these bills.
Barbara Boxer: 415-403-0100
Diane Feinstein: 415/393-0707
Anna Eshoo: 202/225-8104
Nancy Pelosi: [email protected]

For the full list of representatives (53) and websites, go to:
http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/cg...e=ctc&state=ca

We just can't sit and pretend that by ignoring it, it will go away. We must voice our concerns and create the world we want to live in for
our children and their children's children.

Sophie Lapaire

I served 10 years in the Army and hope to god my son does not have to serve!

I know several lifers that have gotten out over the last year or so due to Bush's budget cuts to veterans, and his attempt to cut the combat pay in half while our service personell were over there dying for his fuckin' made up war.

It's time for a change in the U.S. while we still can make a change.

The USA Patriot Act was at one time pending legislation... now it is law... and this has a very real chance of passing... since none of our elected morons have a spine anymore and vote for anything Bushy wants them to...

You also missed the part about not going to Canada, didnt you? You might make it across... they'll just return you to sender... its called deportation.

I think I will buy a large house with a dozen or so bedrooms.

I will rent to GFY draft doggers for 2K a month.

I will have it fully wired and with a T3 internet access so you can keep up your 7 figure incomes!

"The administration is quietly trying to get these bills passed now, while the public's attention is on the elections, so our action on this is needed immediately."

They've been keeping it under wraps, apparently. No wonder. They don't want that kind of backlash before elections.

And it is real. I actually read the bills, "S 89 and HR 163" and it's serious. I don't like it at all. I have kids and there is no way I want them to be forced into something like this.

It is for real. But the chance of it happening? If there's another attack on the US bigger than 9/11 then yeah there's a big chance that kind of draft will happen, otherwise no.

But no problem, I'll maintain your website for a small fee

Bull Shit.... It was covered on CNN when it first came out.

That's pretty much world wide news - hardly "under wraps".

We watch CNN almost all day, every day. If this came out on CNN, we must have missed it while we were sleeping or something! I see how CNN is... they claim they're non-partisan, yet they play the "Dean Scream" 642 times in one week but they give 14 seconds of airtime to a major bill that could ruin the lives of millions of Americans!

Now THAT is bullshit.

why? surely an all volunteer army would be better then drafting internet geeks that don't want to be there, will be undisciplined and unreliable on the field and as already suggested in this thread start fragging officers like in 'nam.
Although it may eventually be necessary as Bush squanders all goodwill and trust as well as percieved competance with Iraq.

As it is now very few people even know someone that has served in the military because the percentage of the population that has served is far less than 1%. As it is now few people even know someone that has a son or daughter serving...let alone actually have a family member serving. I do not know how many in congress (535 members) have a son or daughter currently serving but during the 1st Gulf War there was not a single one did. A draft will affect many more Americans...from all walks of life ...including those within government and may affect the will of the people including those within government to committ our military forces. An all volunteer Army is limited in the classification of status within the society. A draft will rise the classisfication of status within the society to include virtually all walks of life...and actually makes for a better Army...for multiple reasons.

The young people of this country should be required to serve the country that they reap the benefits of. This burden should not be borne alone by a certain class of people.

As for discipline...this has never been more than a minor problem with the military as most people will do their duty and do it well...as long as the people support our military and whatever it is that they are engaged in.

As for the "fraggings" in Vietnam...all conflicts have had their "fraggings" but on very low levels. The "fraggings" in Vietnam began to be prominent when large numbers of people at home began to take to the streets expressing their disapproval of the conflict and the draw down of forces in the theater began. Discipline became a problem as no one wanted to be the last to die in an unpopular war...so those Officers and NCO's that wanted to actually engage the enemy..became the enemy to some of our troops. There were more than 900 known "fraggings" in Vietnam which is not really that many when you consider that something along the number of 3,000,000 served.

Bring it on. The draft will get lazy assed flabby middle class and rich bitches off their ass to serve for a change. Too many big mouth lazy people drum up war and then duck behind their fucking money.

It's time to earn your citizenship; too many Americans just sit on their asses bragging about what "we" can do but they don't ever do shit except suck up the resources of this country and shoot off their fat mouths and start shit with other nations.

We will have less wars when the rich start dying with the rest of us.

Make the world a safer place...draft a lazy rich mother fucker today.

signed: Lieutenant Black Monsters (10yrs service)

PS: Yes, I joined because I needed the money and no other fucking reason.

I think the draft should be based on income, starting with the highest earners going down... and out of the top earners... Republicans first. Considering that they start most of the wars, its only fair.

It shouldn't come as any suprise that a draft may be a real possibility again. ESPECIALLY if Bush gets re-elected and continues to insist that we stay in Iraq.

BEFORE the Iraqi war even began, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs testified before Congress that he thought over 300,000 soldiers would be needed (almost 3 times the current amount) to "subdue" the country, and would have to stay for many years.

Well, with 125,000 currently in Iraq, and our military stretched thin around the world..WHERE will Bush & Co. get the "BODIES" they need to "pacify" Iraq?

They'll have to draft them!

Fuck that I could give a shit less if I live here or any other country. I live barely above the poverty level and I don't want to and won't be drafted for the governments shit. The day I join the military is the day I see Bush and his family in the front lines being shot at.

Well, considering that we still have soldiers deployed in Vietnam and Germany from those wars and they supposedly ended several decades ago... I would say that's probably an accurate statement.

So arrest me. I never filled out the fucking form and I never will. I will not endorse a flawed system by signing up for something that I dont believe in.

Some people do make the choice to be a criminal...to refuse to be drafted is a felony and has a five year sentence in Federal Prison.

Just because some dickwad made a law dosent make it right or consitutional. I have a consitutional right NOT to serve based on that little part about the right to LIFE.

And as my friend who is a law student and working on the computer next to me just messaged over to me on AIM...

"An unconstitutional act is not a law; it confers no rights; it imposes no duties; it affords no protection; it creates no office; it is in legal contemplation, as inoperative as though it had never been passed." Norton v. Shelby County, 118 US 425 (1885)

Well, at least federal joints have cable TV or so I hear. Wonder if they get TechTV on the expanded digital plan?
