"We will not air Howard Stern on Clear Channel stations until we are assured that his show will conform to acceptable standards of responsible broadcasting," said a Wednesday statement from John Hogan, president and CEO of Clear Channel Radio.

While I may not agree with their decision, it was a company decision, it has noting to do with First Amendment rights. It is a business decision made by Clear Channel, not forced by the government.

Thats not completely true, it was forced by government pressure.

Earlier in the day, Clear Channel, which has been under fire from the Federal Communications Commission over allegedly indecent content aired on its stations, announced a zero-tolerance policy that called for immediate suspension of its on-air personalities who cross the line.

Cause Infinity didn't have one of their deejay get fined a record amount for FCC violations. All eyes are on Clear Channel and they buckled under the pressure.

Stern has been counting the days till his contract is up any way. I think people that have listened to him for so long just can't accept the fact that his days of doing a radio show are coming to an end.

In advertising based mediums, there is a big fear of being seen the wrong way by the public.

A handful of years ago, wrestling came under the same fire. Mcmahon was pushing the boundaries of good taste to the edge to try and shock people to watch his program because Nitro was kicking his ass.

He got the audiance back, but then a lot of advertisors started pulling out over fear about how racy the content was getting.

They then toned it down due to that pressure.


Stern could have cleaned up his show a lot in the last years, and it still would have been just as funny. Hes a hard to control guy though and the employers were afraid to reign him in because they had to kiss his ass. Now with his contract coming up, they just aren't going to go deep for him.

i have to say it was bound to happen sooner or later, i mean there are a lot of people that dont like his show,

Howard is still on in Vegas under Infinity Broadcasting. What I'm wondering is why the FCC hasn't targeted Infinity radio yet. If they target Infinity Radio, I'm sure Howard will be happy taking his show to XM radio.
