I would never promote something like that.. I believe in geo-targeting, but I don't think that means send everything to a dialer. It's too bad, that's a pretty serious screw of the surfer.

The Hun,

I noticed the same thing with the coding, it seems that c=free (lowecase) gives popups, but c=FREE (uppercase only) doesn't.

ars needs to get everything situated, im losing patience as a loyal webmaster.

Anyway, I click 'no'. I get a popup saying "You must click to access the site."... What utter BS. I clicked 'NO', I don't want it... Anyway, I click "ok" and get the same dialer download popup again. Again I click 'no'.

Surprise, surprise! "You must click to access the site" on my screen again. What part of "no" doesn't this piece of scripting understand??

I get the dialer popup again and again I click no and again do I get the message "You must click to access"... All this time I can't navigate the site or click 'back'... the popups force me to stick with clicking "NO" 4 times in a row now...

Finally I get a different message after clicking 'NO': "You did not click (Oh, so the script DOES know there are other options). In order to access the site, you must install this software. Do you want to install the software now?". Duh! Off course not... So I click "Cancel". THE FUCKING THING THEN STARTS DOWNLOADING VIEWER.EXE... HELLOOOHOOO!!!! I CLICKED "Cancel"!!!

^ the exact same shit happens to me all the time. I Click NO, and it says YOU MUST CLICK YES, i click no, YOU MUST CLICK YES, and it happens about 3-4 times. Fucking annoying

SleazyDream 04-09-2004 01:15 PM

time to take your medicine babe.
bend over and present your ass, it's spanking time.

i may be a bit more of a whore than the hun is but for the most part I'm with him on this one. Auto installs piss me off something fucking aweful unless I'm paid properly for them, even then what i want to subject anyone to that is more than what anyone is willing to pay. assholes think they can get away with DESTROYING a site's bookmarks with that shit. I'm game to that kind of thing on some foreign traffic but only if i GET PAID a whole lot fucking more, no fucking way am I destroying my site for the same price that everyone else makes clean stuff for that will keep my surfers comming back.

TheHun, it still amazes me the patience you have to 1) actually click, click no, argue with the damn script - then do it over again to figure out who and what they are popping up 2) then to sit and hahahahaha it all, step by step as an explanation to the many webmasters who will continue to argue with you that it's 'console free'

Then people have hmm...let's say 'audacity' to call you unfair.

NaughtyJenn 04-09-2004 09:30 PM

i have noticed a trend almost of auto installers and "must click yes" growing.. no good at all..

everyone has a price.
foriegn dialers are doing great :)

integrated 04-09-2004 09:51 PM

whats wrong with doing that?

also in the recent past i had my galleries denied from getting listed on the hun because i launced a pop-up on every 100th FOREIGN visitor what is wrong with that? it's not affecting US traffic so what is the problem?

granted it was a dialer LINK on the console it was not an auto install. Cant we make money?

Snake Doctor 04-10-2004 01:38 AM

Gee where are all the ARS board reps and sig whores at now?

Good to see all the hun ass kissers are out in full force though.

but that's my point - ARS wants to do the dialer which destroys bookmarks and not pay the proper dollar. the point to me is that they arn't being upfront about it.

it's one thing to do a dialer
it's another to auto install it.
and it's another to lie about it.

if you go a step further accusing an individual person of ass kissing when in fact that person/party is just in fact stating there opinion they can indeed sue you for LIBEL.

just a heads up

foreign traffic doesnt convert

See sig.

bdeforest 04-12-2004 09:18 AM

1. Webmasters control where their foreign traffic goes, we do not. It's not our dialer stealing money from webmasters. It is an option offered to webmasters to increase revenue from their foreign surfers.

2. The dialer DOES NOT auto install. Auto install = installing a program on your computer without your knowledge or ability to prevent the installation. Yes, you do have to click no or cancel 4 times to stop the pops, but it never auto installs.

3. Perhaps if surfers were more willing to pay for memberships because they couldn't get so much free high quality content otherwise or if webmasters didn't expect such a high payout for members whose values are horribly low, then the dialer wouldn't have to be so aggressive. Unfortunatley, that is just not the case. Lots of things have to change to keep this from being a necessity. I guess time will tell on that one.

Anyway, Patrick, if I create a linking code that will let you filter out any accounts that are filtering their international traffic to a dialer, will you consider removing us from your blacklist once again?

I'm not blaming anyone. My point was that the payout per signup is too high to make money off the signup alone. Hence all these other methods that have come in to play to make up for it on the back end. If the payout wasn't so high, perhaps these other things wouldn't be needed, or at least not as aggressively as they are being used.

Going down the drain huh? LMFAO If that's the case, then what am I still doing working. I should just go home. Thanks for letting me know :thumbsup

Now back to reality.....

The thing that gets me about all of this is the dialer has not changed since it was opened. It has always been the way it is now. With the millions we have paid out on it so far, I guess webmasaters think it makes them more money otherwise they wouldn't use it.

I just want to know if I set up a linking code that will show whether the international traffic is filtered or not, can we get off the blacklist. I can respect the Hun's wishes, and I also know that dialers can make webmasters more money and they should have the choice to use one if they wish. I'm just looking for a way to make it work for everyone.

When we looked at what each signup made for us vs what we paid for it, it was very much upside down. So we were losing money on every signup that came in the door. That to me says payout is too high. If a signup is only worth $20, why would I pay $35 for it? Would you be willing to take that loss?

The reason Marc could walk away with that much is because of 7+ years of rebills. But there is a big difference between positive cash flow and profitability.

Hm... I tend to strongly disagree on this one... Any paysite that sees free sites as competition need to take a look at their member's area and find out that they can afford to offer what can not be offered for free... But I'm sure you know that ;-)

If the option is clear in the URL I am still strongly against redirecting foreign traffic to a dialer, but I would link to ARS again. I do suggest ARS looking more in geo-targeting, there are plenty sites out there that can convert in different countries in other ways than annoying the hell out of people...

Not ARS members areas though right? I mean when a surfer joins a "niche" site they shouldn't expect more the a few hundred pics in that niche and then lots of plugins or unrelated content to that niche right? :1orglaugh

Becky

Becky you just contradicted yourself.

The webmaster can choose to have the dialer on or off on their links, and their payout is the same for the signups their traffic generates.
The dialer revenue is a totally separate issue.
So what does your dialer being aggressive have to do with webmasters wanting high payouts???

Right cutetwink, not ARS members areas. The OLD members area's were hahahahahaha cutter sites with lots of plugins and 3rd party content.

The New www.ARS4Real.com members area reality sites are full of exclusive content and not bastardized content that surfers can get from any ol' members area. That's one of the biggest things we've changed...we give surfers exclusive content that they can't get from every other site out there. Crazy concept, huh? That's one of the reasons I've been telling our affiliates to promote the 60/40 revenue share option because with surfers staying around longer, webmasters are sure to make a lot more money. :2 cents:

bdeforest 04-21-2004 09:20 AM

Just a head's up...

This issue has been resolved with the Hun. In order for your galleries to be accepted on his site, you must use the variable &nofilter=yes in your linking code. His script will look for this variable, and if it isn't present, it will deny your listing. If you have questions, please lmk.

Thanks Hun for working this out with me :)
