Do cats fall of balconies - or are they smarter than that?

I am so concerned SoBeKitty will fall off my balcony. I hope not.

My cat has been scaring the piss out of me for months jumping up on the railing on top of the stair case. He's never fallen, but he slid all the way down once.

I have a balcony off of my upstairs bathroom..That is the only place where the cat can go outside and get some fresh air without me worrying about him running off...He goes past the railing and is on the very edge of the balcony and never falls off..If he did, even if he landed on his legs, they would be broken at the least.

im sitting on my little brothers couch just talking to him, and i watch his cat walk outside on his balcony.. i ask. hey man, is that safe? yea sure, he goes out there all the time, he should know hes 3 floors up. so i look back out there just to see the tip of the tail shooting over the side

we both jump up and look, 3 floors belive lies his cat in the bushes. we run down, and lucky for the cat, hes still alive. way fucked up in the head, but nothing broken or anything like that

it only took him once to fall and now he never goes out there

I've seen it happen. 30 stories down. not a pretty site.

Please keep your kitty off the balcony, they are agile, but all it takes is for a gust of wind to catch em the wrong way.

hope this helps

True, cat's are very agile. But they can and do fall.

A few years back I had a balcony on the 3rd story of a building and my cat would occasionally sneak out on and jump on the railing. It always scared the crap out of me but she never fell off.

I'm 8 floors up, concerns me sometimes, but so far, my cat never even tries anything silly out there. I think he's afraid of heights actually.. he kinda crawls his way up to the side to look down.

I am not really worried about anything happenng to him.... UNLESS a bird lands on the handrailing. If he jumps for it, then he could be in trouble.

Mine are daredevils around the house, but one instance convinced me to not put a staircase on my tallest deck.

Back in 2000, when I first had the pond put in.. I'd go out on my large deck to check on things very often. Alway before we left and right when we came home, I'd peek out there. The deck has no stairs down..only access is from a upper (main) floor door on my house. One side is probably 25 feet down to rocks and the other is about 15 feet down to a boardwalk.

When I came home one night after being gone about 3 hours, I went to check the pond off the deck. When I got out there (flashlight in hand checking for racoons), I heard a thump behind me. Somehow, Bubba.. one of my pixie bobs, had snuck out the storm door as it closed 3 hours earlier when I checked on the pond before we left. Of all the cats, he's the most fearless. Well, instead of jumping and being long gone, injured or dead, he'd decided it was best to settle in on one of the deck chairs and wait it out.

Thankfully.

They should be pretty smart, so I don't think so.

I've seen my cat fall off the kitchen chairs, and off the kitchen counters countless times. It's funny watching her try to grab onto the tile as she's on her way down.

My cat fell off the balcony like 3 times.. but he didnt break anything. He's still healthy. They can fall like 10 feet high and not break anything, but you should still be careful.
