whats really scary is that the whole tomb thing is so poorly constructed they dont expect it to last much longer. like maybe a few years if theyre lucky.

then its chernobyl all over again.

Very sad...

She must be one brave woman to venture into the radiation-polluted areas.

In comparison, an office in Pittsburgh has about 11 micro-roentgens/hr.

That is some freaky shit.

I couldn't go into ghost city alone and into abandonned buildings. Beeing in somebody's abandonned house would be freaky as hell..

as far as I know even milliroentgen are not deadly, unless of course you sit infront of a source for years. Also, a dose that might not be bad for your heath if you just stand is a lot worse if you have it inside of your body. Thats why she says things like she prefers not to ride on very dusty roads or ride there when others ride there too because of the radioactive dust you would breath into your lungs.

500 microroentgen are not deadly at all, having 500 microroentgen in your lungs for 1 year is not such a nice though though, at least not for your lungs ;)

Bloody amazing. I did a project on Chernobyl in school and ever since I have been fascinated with the incident and both the short and long term the aftermath. At the time (1990ish) photographers went right into the reactor building. The dose received in that single visit was twice the safe dose for an ENTIRE lifetime.

BTW, I'm surprised that her angelfire site isn't (a) popping 5 windows per page and (b) isn't complaining about bw exceeded...

I live near the Chernobyl Zone - about 300-500Km from it. Most our people have illness and diseases connected with influence of radiation. It is a tradegy of whole generation!

Errrrrrr what has this got to do with your lungs? In any case, didnt she say that 500 was enough to die a slow, quiet death or something like that.

Reactor 3 is adjacent to the ruined reactor 4, it was only closed down in 2000.

It has a ton to do with your lungs/internal organs.

If you breath in fallout (radioactive dust), it then sits in your body for a long period of time. This is the reason during the cold war some bombs were specifically designed to explode at the optimum altitude to introduce as much dust into the atmosphere as possible. (some were designed the opposite of course)

If radioactive fallout gets on your skin (pretend you don't breath or swallow it for a minute), it's not nearly as bad as you can literally wash it off. Then you are only exposed for the amount of time it takes you to get your chemical bath. (this of course may still be lethal depending on the radioactivity of whatever substance is on you, but is far less likely to be).

The certain iodine compound among others I don't know of, helps to pass radiation through your body. From my understanding, taking these chemicals after being exposed basically "attracts" some radioactive isotopes to a "sold" compount, where it can then be cleaned from your body via normal waste-disposal means (liver, kidney, whatever..). That's why back after 9/11 you got spam for whatever iodine compound this is. It's obviously not too terribly effective, but an old method of treating radiation sickness.

Shrug.. this is of course all my understanding. I could be wrong on some things, as real good specific non-technical explanation of the TRUE effects of radiation are somewhat hard to come by. There is LOTS of FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt) spread about radiation, which I hope goes away in my lifetime. I would have taken that ride any day of the week, and hopefully someday maybe I'll be able to..

-Phil

Is it true that radiation causes hair loss?

If it is, maybe I need to get there. Depilation doesnt work and therefore I cannot hang out at the beach without people staring and girls find me repulsive.

As such, I could move to Chernobyl.

Low rent - Low population - Free Hair Loss

Anyone thing my logic is warped or am I making sense?
