Can you stop or do you need mobile internet?

I just use Starbucks and Tmobile Hotspots when I travel.

At Starbucks, working on a porn site can be an adventure.

Lurker is right that the T-Mobile deal is the best thing going right now for staying in touch on the road. You pay roughly $200 for the PC card that goes in your laptop and then it is $30 per month for unlimited connectivity. It doesn't count against cell minutes and doesn't interfere with you using the phone. Speeds are similar to dial-up (I get about 42 - 48kbps typically) so it is slow but the advantage is it is available anywhere you have cell phone coverage so it works in hotels, airports, or even to look up mapquest in a rental car.

Jeffery is right that if you need broadband speeds, then wifi hotspots are the way to go. Practically every hotel, airport, and starbucks has wifi connectivity now so with a 802.11b PC card you can have high speed access in any of those locations. You can get the card for well under $100 and it typically costs about 10 cents a minute (or with T-Mobile you can sign up for a $20 per month for unlimited usage account though you will encounter hotspots that aren't covered with their plan).

Good Luck!

i don't think it's worth it for the laptop/cell phone way right now, at least not in canada.

the proper card costs about $450 CDN without a contract. the plan itself costs $100 for unlimited use, plus a $60 activation fee, plus a $60/yr data network charge, plus a $7/mth system licensing charge, plus your regular phone use fees.

Yeah, whenever I spot a guy sitting in a corner chair looking a litttle suspicions I know he's either surfing porn or designing it!

Verizon offers 2 good products that we use.

This is a great all in one Plus you can use it with your laptop if you like.

Samsung I700

Whats really nice is it gives you a camera, phone, and hahahahahahas CE device all in one. (LOTS less to lug around) Reviews have been great and we really have not heard to many bad things about it.

Or if you want a card to put into you laptop use the Sierra Aircard 555

We average 60-80k even when driving and have found very few places in the us that it will not work in. In DC and San Fran they have the new systems in place that will give you cable modem speeds of 300k or better, with that system being moved out to the rest of the country now. Plus, with the i700 you can also pick up a wifi SD card to still use it at starbucks or other access points.

Unlimited access is 80 bucks a month. We have used the Aircard 555 for over a year and loved it. (Actually going to be selling it on Ebay soon since we bought the i700 going price used seems to be about 130 bucks)

For some interesting information on the i700 you can read here

i700 users forum

BTW, we used this at the internex the last few years in Vegas and the connection speed was WAY better than the access we saw our frinds getting over at the Hotel.

Hope this helps!
