    Guerilla Marketing... anyone do it successfully?

    Has anyone ever tried doing offline guerilla marketing for their sites? The only guerilla marketing I've seen is that casino site that gets someone to streak with their URL.

    I'm thinking of printing up cheap business cards with a URL and something like "Visit today for your free 3 day pass" and paying someone a few bucks to hand them out downtown to men near stripclubs/peepshows on Friday/Saturday nights.

    What else would work? Getting stickers printed up with your URL and putting them up around town? I do that for my mainstream graffiti site and it works great.

    What has worked for you? Anyone else have cool ideas?

                      the costs aren't that bad. a 1000 cheap business cards can be printed here for $20 CDN and then you give some kid $10/hr for 2-3 hours to hand them out.

                                  another idea i had was doing up a nice tour linking to my pages, burning it on a whole bunch of blank CDs and giving those out to people instead of business cards.

                                  i think if you ran a single girl site and put these CDs in a paper envelope signed by the girl, maybe with a nice label or even just a picture, you could probably work out a deal with a few sex shops and have them drop the CDs in customers' bags or leave a stack at the counter.

                                          i doubt it. many sex shops here in canada give out free magazines which are basically just upsells to paid DVDs and websites.

                                          the CD would be the same concept. you give em $0.50 a CD they give away or something like that and they'd probably be happy.

                                                  SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.

                                                                  A group of designers got know in my country and all latin america breaking into the satellite signal of locomotion, fucking with a new season of south park, and interrumpting it for about 20 minutes with their own shit. They also do political graffitis on the streets (not the everyday shit like: yankees, go home!) but some really good shit with quite simple drawings and a quotation.

                                                                                  i used to be a flyer kid and so did my girlfriend a few years ago. you're assigned a location and you gotta stay there. you have a supervisor (who is unfamiliar to the flyer kid) drive by every 30 mins or every hour to check on the kid. most flyer kids know they'll be checked on, so they hand em out.

                                                                                  also, i have a lot of friends who i trust who would have no problem doing this for $10/hr cash.

                                                                                                      i'm not sure anyone's ever been successfully prosecuted for defacing money. they'd have to have all 50K bills to hit them with 50K instances though.

                                                                                                                  i was discussing this with someone earlier and they gave me a good idea. say you run your own paysite. you set up the sex shop as an affiliate of your site and you create different CDs for different shops with their ref ids on the CD.

                                                                                                                  give them something low like $5 per join or 30% recurring and encourage them to target male clients with PCs and give them the CD for free.

                                                                                                                  not only do you get good, targetted marketing, but you it ends up costing you less than paying $25 per join or 60% recurring.

                                                                                                                  plus, you can put other things on your CD like privacy software or links to pre-paid credit card.

                                                                                                                  i think it's definetly something worth trying.

                                                                                                                              it's not that hard. you tell your flyer kids to give the cards to males over 18 who aren't with other women. and of course, it get them to do it near sex shops and strip joints.

                                                                                                                              also, for the CD idea, if you're giving the sex shop a cut, you get them to target their customers. for example, if you're running a teen site, make sure they don't give the CDs to guys buying gay porn or mature porn.

                                                                                                                              PMdave, thanks again for the ideas the good thing about these ideas are they're regional. you can have a guy in Florida and a guy in Montreal doing the same thing and there's no competition

Although putting a porn url on money would not be a good idea.

The fine is $100.00 and or 6 months in Jail... The law says you must deface the bill or note with the intent of making it unuseable...?? So there is a real gray area in the law... But they could make your life suck and cost you a lot in legal fees, But I don't think you would go to jail.

                                                                                                                                                                              i was discussing this with someone earlier and they gave me a good idea. say you run your own paysite. you set up the sex shop as an affiliate of your site and you create different CDs for different shops with their ref ids on the CD.

                                                                                                                                                                              give them something low like $5 per join or 30% recurring and encourage them to target male clients with PCs and give them the CD for free.

                                                                                                                                                                              not only do you get good, targetted marketing, but you it ends up costing you less than paying $25 per join or 60% recurring.

                                                                                                                                                                              plus, you can put other things on your CD like privacy software or links to pre-paid credit card.

                                                                                                                                                                                  I'm thinking of printing up cheap business cards with a URL and something like "Visit today for your free 3 day pass" and paying someone a few bucks to hand them out downtown to men near stripclubs/peepshows on Friday/Saturday nights.

Getting stickers printed up with your URL and putting them up around town? I do that for my mainstream graffiti site and it works great.

We got a flyer distribution team (we have a weekly magasine free everywhere in town) and we put some near strip clubs and 18+ clubs that allow us . They also printed (with us again) sticker to put on cars ...j

That was just the start they needed
