If you had a diary of Escort Girls experiences...

Hi People...

I'm looking for some advice/opions/ideas... I have a large journal which I kept when I was running an Escort Agency. The journal contains entries from the working girls, drivers and receptionists over a 2 year period. We have booking experiences (normal and weird!), poems, drawings, jokes, intimate thoughts from people within the industry, photos and some general bitching...

I've been considering getting it published as a book... Not exactly sure what I want to do with it... Everybody that has seen the book can't put it down for hours - they love it...

What would you do if you had something like this in your possession?

Thanks
Mandy

BTW - there is no way anybody could work out who these people are, by publishing the journal their identities would remain safe...

The business was good and profitable... I opened it when I was 20 and sold out after 10 years - there is only a certain amount of time you can juggle a 24/7 business and a family before you start to go nuts ;)

My family has almost always been involved in the business and I'm the only one that decided to get out (Mum and Sister still own their own establishments) - I decided to work online instead ;) Less stress, and just as much money to be made without the high profile legal dramas....

There aren't any real names of ladies in the book it self, it's all their working names... I'll have to loose the majority of the pictures though - but they can be replaced with drawings....

I think I'm going to have to ring around and see if this is the kind of content that publishers might be looking for... I was also thinking of an ebook, but I'm not too sure about it...

My mum had an escort agency when I was growing up, it was always there in the background... She ended up going to prison for tax evasion and I took over her business when I was 19 - the other people which where meant to run it ripped it off, in the end we couldn't trust anybody with it... The Tax Dept (it's based in Australia) ended up shutting down the business, so I opened one from scratch about a year later - it's a very, very long story....

cool shit. I run an escort agency as well and thinks its a great idea. It would give people insight into the business and hopefully help to loosen up the laws once they see its not so bad!

Just make sure that if you do get a publisher that they dont switch it around and try it make it more mainstream, or more shocking, or more.. well you get the picture. that could really ruin it. Print it AS IS.. except for the identities.

The prostitution laws in Australia vary from state to state, in WA it all depends how you do it if it's legal or not. I was charged once in the first 12 months of operation for 'knowing, partially or fully living off the earnings of prositution' but I beat it in court, we set ourselves up in such a way it couldn't be proven - but the next lot of people to be charged took the fine and got off with $130 - makes me wonder sometimes why we bothered fighting it at all :P But, to this day, I have no criminal record, so I'm happy

I think you should publish it too. Sounds like it would be a great read!

Detoxed had a good idea too. You should write another book about starting your own escort service. But I think you should also include your personal experiences in starting and running the business as well. That would make a pretty interesting read.

im sure you'd cash in on an idea like that... I saw a commercial on the other day that some place does cheap publishing by the book... So you dont have to throw wads and wads of $$$

I would like to write a book on how to open an agency, but every location has different laws and will have a different way to do it. The way I did it would be far too stressful for most people to cope with. We opened with 0 staff and $20,000 - we where running $4,500 worth of weekly ads with the motto, advertise and the staff will come - and they did... I manned the phones myself for the first 3 days before we found a receptionist and a couple of girls, it's a risky business to get off the ground.

If I was to do it again, I wouldn't even attempted it without $100,000 to start with - where we are, only 1 out of 15 Agencies makes it through the first 12 months....

A book about my history, I have seriously thought about it, but I think it would upset/embarass too many people around me. Many things have happened in the past which have been long forgotten, I don't really want to bring it all back...

That's why you would be the perfect person to write a book about opening up a business like that. You've been through it and you've started pretty much from scratch(with no staff and $20,000.)

Therefore, you would be able to tell people some things they shouldn't do, what things are good to do, and explain better ways of doing certain things. Which I'm sure would probably save some people time, money, and the possibility of going through some bad experience(s).

You could always put a disclaimer in your book saying that whomever may be thinking about starting this type of business should check the laws where they live because they are probably different from the laws where you are and that you don't condone/encourage anyone to break the laws of their state/country.

That should cover your ass on that issue.

Just an idea for you to think about.

I can understand that you wouldn't want to bring up painful memories or hurt anyone close to you by writing a book on your past experiences though.

Good luck with this diary book idea! Sounds like it will be a great read.

Get publicity for it by starting a blog on it.. then contact big sites like fleshbot.com, metafilter.com, etc.. you could drum up interest that way.

Ok, I'm not going to bother looking for one of the best entries in the journal... I'll give you the very first one... Word for word, I'll even leave in any spelling errors.....

The Six Foot Fairy:

Last booking of the day thank god. I went up to the door knocked and it was opened by a nice looking guy - thank god. The usual formalities happened.

He excused himself, I got confortable in bed thinking I finnish in an hour, nice room, human client, not a bad end to the day when around the corner came a 6 foot tinkerbell in a bright pink too too, and to make matters worse he kept it on the whole time and in the end of his penis he had a glittering star...

That was an odd one, but it was the first entry!

mandy, if i were you i would get legal advice first to make sure there would be no problems using the stories of other people.

if the lawyer gives it the then get it touch with publishers, or if you have the money publish it yourself, im sure it would be an interesting read

Sounds like an interesting read.

I think the idea definately has some potential, you just have to market it right. If you can get it advertised on some adult sites like adultshop or something simular you would definately get alot of interest. I think a lot of people would like to find out what really happens, especially because it's none of their business. It would be interesting to see what the girls have to say.

I think legally it is a sticky issue. If the book does well the contributors could sue for part of the proceeds. Too much success would land you in court for ever.

Sounds very good. Not only you have something people would love to read, but seems like you're open minded to ideas.
My suggestion, follow "the ideavirus" concept (http://www.ideavirus.com)
Publish it as an ebook and give it to people for free. On your site, upsell memberships and anything else you can.
Create a buzz around it and around your brands or your name for future projects.
Marketing is the key and in the information age, traditional marketing is not the best choice anymore.
just my two cents

it sounds like a good idea, but if you do make any money the original contributors will, most likely, come asking for a portion (rightfully so, unless you had contracts signed to a different effect when they were employed by you). For compilations of different authors work you need signed consent or there's risk.

if you do it, don't ebook it, ebooks are queer. it'd be a great coffee table book.

you shouldn't worry about writing your past experiences in fear of hurting those around/involved in your life/past. If everyone did, there would be no autobiographies or authorized biographies. Drama makes things interesting. The past happened, like it or not and people have to accept that.

I think the stories may have to be somewhat edited so that you can use them. But obviously, a lawyer should be consulted for the final word.

Personally, I think publishing it is a good idea.

once you get the legal aspects handled i could help you out with online marketing ideas, something like that would build a great long term fan base if developed properly.

Sounds like Heidi Fleiss's book...it's been done. I think out of respect for your clients you shouldn't put it out there...you ran an illegal buisness...there would be a paper trail because for legal reasons you would need to use your real name in some form (yes you can use a sudo for the book itself but not the legal paper work). And I'm sure the IRS would be in touch for tax purposes...I don't suggest it...maybe set it up on line through someone else so your name has no attachment...but you are looking for some major heat if you publish it!
