I find it funny that the Democrats name a radio network after a well-known former CIA owned company.

Oh, and the best part of the deal is that Randi Rhodes is going national. If you've never heard her, give her a shot... quite a breath of fresh air

What a joke... The liberals have owned the press for decades.
I'm sure Rush Limbaugh is shaking in his boots. I'm not a big Limbaugh fan... But he'll eat them for breakfast Noone, noone could possibly take Al Franken seriously.

liberal venom doesn't sell. If it did, it wouldn't have to be *backed* it would be profitable because it was good.

<< American radio >>
um, as someone who spent 25 years in the radio industry, what Franken and company are doing is *not* "American radio." it's a group of people buying time on a few crappy radio stations that very few people can hear...in order to get their rocks off. the reason that the big-name "conservative" radio talk shows have succeeded and thrived, is that they have been good, entertaining radio shows, done by *broadcasters* who have honed their craft and paid their dues, slowly building a base of support and listeners nationwide. When Limbaugh went into syndication, he started on a *handful* of radio stations - built a track record and over a period of years, impressed *important* stations enough to have them add the show, and built a huge audience through *good radio programming.* first and foremost, the conversative hosts wanted to build great radio shows that would attract mass audiences, and the talented ones did it. if al franken's #1 goal is to piss off Bill O'Reilly (as he's stated), rather than to do a terrific radio show...he won't last as long as Mario Cuomo did with *his* radio show. successful radio personalities don't do a show for the purpose of pushing a point of view. they have a point of view which is *expressed* in their skillful use of the medium. while it's not radio...the best example is the "Daily Show." they clearly have an agenda...but they first built a terrific television show, through which the liberal point of view is expressed. franken and company should think about that...instead of just listening to their egos and their anger. |

If you are on the East Coast the radio show will air @ 12:00 noon on 1190 AM.
He will directly compete with RUSH.

![]() As someone who claims to have been in the radio industry for 25 years you should know how things work, politically, in that industry. Have you ever heard of a 'crappy little company' called Clear Channel? They used to broadcast this guy called Howard Stern on their network... maybe you've heard of them? Maybe you're familiar with how Stern got his start in Radio? Being in the radio industry for 25 years, you don't think that politics in that industry are any more conservative then they were.... say... 5 years ago? Did you know that Al Franken (And Michael Moore) write books too? Did you know that books written by these authors were at the top of the New York Times best seller lists for weeks and months? --- Consistently abvoe Bill O'Reillys book I might add. ![]() |

1. I'm very familiar with Clear Channel AND Howard Stern. a. they're not a "network" as such. they're a station group. b. they used to carry Stern's syndicated show on six of their stations, but dropped the show from those stations because they want to stay on the "good side" of Congress during the furor over broadcast standards - because they're *very* much at risk as a near-monopoly with questionable business tactics, and defending their empire is a lot more important than the ratings they can get on six local stations with Stern. The decision to drop his show from their six stations had nothing to do with individuals' personal politics - it had everything to do with protecting their business. Stern's "home group" is Infinity Broadcasting, the local radio arm of CBS. And Stern is a perfect example of what I was talking about - someone who honed his craft at small stations and eventually became one of the preeminent radio entertainers of the 20th century. 2. "Politics" in the radio industry are very different than programming philosophy or tactics. Believe it or not, there are a lot more liberal than conservative radio *programmers.* Profits and ROI are the driving forces - the reasons that Rush is on 600 stations, with Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly not far behind, are simple: ratings and revenue. I ran one large station where we carried Rush, and another where I was unable to steal him from the competition. It had nothing to do with my politics (and you have *no* idea what they are), or my company's politics. It had to do with the fact that he did a great show and dominated the time period. Pure and simple. If Mario Cuomo's talk show had been a good show that people wanted to listen to, it would have been a success. It wasn't. It was basically a boring liberal sermon. Are large radio groups scared by the bullshit going on now that was triggered by Janet Jackson's nipple? Of course they are. That doesn't mean they're more conservative than they were five years ago. It means they're terrified of the "death penalty" that's being discussed - possible losses of licenses. It has nothing to do with any conservative or liberal bias. 3. Ignoring your condescending attitude, yes, I'm aware of who writes books and where they stand on the NYT best seller list. That has absolutely nothing to do with who does good radio shows. The Bible is the number one selling book of all time. That doesn't mean that someone reading the bible for two hour a day would be good, or successful, radio. |
