A baby boy born with three legs and two male organs around the hip in the St Elizabeth Hospital in Lusiksiki is to be flown to the Red Cross Children's Hospital in Cape Town on Thursday.

Eastern Cape health MEC Bevan Goqwana said the baby was born to an 18-year-old woman identified only as Tobeka on Thursday. It was her first child.

"It was supposed to be a twin delivery," Goqwana told Sapa. "The baby has one head, and around the hip it has two penises. It also has three legs as well as an undeveloped arm.

"There is also no anus."

Goqwana said the health department would pay for the flight to Cape Town as well as the hospital costs.

The baby will be accompanied by its mother and a doctor on the flight to Cape Town.

I am a mother of a special needs child who has has 15 surgeries in his short 7 years. I so know what this young lady has in store for her. I am curious if the boy was born premature or fullterm. This truely is a sad but very interesting birth. I will send my positive vibes this families way. I think its a bit much to tell the world about this childs condition. If anyone finds out who he is he will be tortured his whole life...sad!

Drugs and/or alcohol probably had nothing to do with it. They're more than likely just conjoined twins. When the embryo splits completely in two, you get identical twins. If any part of it stays attached or it doesn't split completely, then you get babies who are joined together in some way. Sounds like they were mainly fused from the waist up and all of both babies didn't develop from the waist down.

I actually was neighbors with this lady about 8 years ago, and she was born without an anus, and had to have emergency surgery right after birth. It's actually a huge deal to not have one, probably the biggest of this baby's problems right now. =/
