Why would someone send a spam like this?

i get about 50-100 spams/day that arn't even selling anything - just some gobblygook message or a simple message in them - but they are addressed to me.

why would a spammer want to send out a spam without any link to a product in it? doesn't make sense to goto the effort and cost???

Can someone please enlighten me on as to why they would do this?

Only reason I can think of it a test spam message to see if you have a valid email or not (they're testing their spam list for quality / active emails)

that's an AWEFUL lot of fucking test messages. the ratio of them to real spams seems a bit too high to make sense

Oops, I read too quickly through your reply and looked over the fact that you're getting 50 - 100 of these non-ad spam messages a day.

You've got me
