replace sendmail with qmail, problem solved not only is it better all round, with lots of features, but I haven't had to patch any distro for a remote/local security hole in two+ years.

The only real remote hole was that ncftp foulup from a couple years back. Like you say if you have a machine with no local users and restricted services your chances of a hack are very remote.
