not asking the surfer for username and password

I noticed that nastydollars, bangbros, and perfectgonzo don't ask the surfer for the username and password when signing up. They auto-generate it for them

Does anybody have any experience with doing this in the way that it helps conversion by asking the surfer as little information as possible?

for example they do not ask them for Stress Address or City either which kind of makes fraud protection harder

but I mainly wanted to know if conversions are better without asking the surfer for username and password

what y'all think?

hmm... the submission can be handled faster ;)
if the user thinks about a pass maybe he decides not to signup..
that takes 1 min more..
the best would be one click signups ;)

Well we do the same for

www.mashaworld.com and www.youngporn.net/tour.php

Well we only create the password for them. We did NOT see any differences when we started doing this(long long time ago)

And it works perfect against those hacker boys (of course we have more protections but still, JIM:JIM was very easy to guess)

I would think auto-generated passwords/usernames reduce retentions, as I'm sure some members end up forgetting them. One of the reasons that auto-generated usernames/passwords are used are for hacker protection though.

Surely if thinking about it logically that would have completely the opposite affect?

However, as has been said the reality is that it makes little difference and usually has nothing to do with retention/conversion. Usually it's just a security measure.

I get enough complaints about CCBill autogenerated usernames and passwords (a particularly nightmarish implementation, with mixed case to boot).

Surfers don't like them because you could be a member for 7 years and still need a post-it note to type one, with about a 1 in 3 chance of getting it right.

Still, overall it seems to be a very small percentage. I'm willing to give away a signup or 2 a month to help block hackers.
