how do you really feel?

I currently drive a bmw... don't know why you would say they are wannabee's, they seem nothing alike.

Anyone with actual experience with these vehicles care to comment?

Land Rovers are great!.....my best friend has a range rover , and my sister has the discovery II...beautiful, strong, solid machines...

BUT!!!!!.....

Make SURE that you get as much extended warranty as you possilby can.....when things go wrong with them it is shockingly expensive. My sister spent an extra $2,500 on a long long warranty and it has saved her about $10k

My best buddy didn't and now regrets it big time.

Consumer Reports says their reliability is at best poor, as is customer satisfaction for all models except the Land Rover Range Rover. The Freelander and Discovery are about as bad as you can get with the Freelander getting a -148 on a scale of -80 to +80, negative being worst of course. Discovery got a -100 rating. I think spending more money on an extended warranty would be a smart bet if you got one. If you want to check it out, the reviews are in the april issue.

The first car i brought when coming to USA was a Land Rover. I needed something with head room ( i hate that feeling or being confined ) and it had tons of room for my cameras and lighting gear. But after just a few thousand miles it started making strange sounds, turns out the transmission was shot, faulty gearbox or some such crap $15,000..00 worth of work but done under warranty. Next thing was all the rubber around the windows started to rot or fall apart another $2,000.00 worth of repairs but again it was under warranty.
As soon as the warranty ran out i sold that puppy as i just knew it was going to cost a bomb to keep on the road. Oil leaks, overheating 16 miles to the gallon its an expensive SUV to keep running. I have a VW Touareg ( Toe Rag ) now and its far far better and i get around 22 miles per gallon out of it.

Be very careful with extended warrantys . I got one here in the USA cost about $2500.00 and they always had some way to get out of covering what ever went wrong. IMHO an extended warranty is money down the drain

They share motors (!).

Really. The new types have same motors as the X5.

Do some research, you'll be amazed.

I agree they're nothing alike, I meant that they wanted to get
the flexibility of the X5 motor by using it in their "vehicle".

I also agree, the costs are enormous.

The most solid cars are probably the Nissan and Toyota jeeps.

Almost unbreakable.
