The DDS who removed mine did the anesthesia himself. He was recommended to me by my dentist who I have seen for about 20 years now.

The precedure went off just fine, I don't think you have anything to worry about unless his name is Kevorkian. :winkwink:

Jesus Christ! This thread couldn't have come at a better time ... mine started hurting like hell ... out of the blue on Friday. Hurt so bad, I almost got the plyers and pulled one out myself. Been living on Advils since. Got an appointment tomorrow and hopefully have them removed by the end of the week. the bottom two are impacted, so that should be fun ... good luck dear! I feel your pain :(

Thong Sniper 03-29-2004 07:47 PM

i havent had mine removed and theyve all grown in fine. i need a dentist though. just to make sure everything is fine all up in my grill.

The one on top is still IN the gum, but I can feel it starting to come out. So they'll have to use a knife or some type of scalpel and cut open my flesh! And sew me up with stiches afterwards... :helpme I've never had stitches before. I might be traumatized for my life if I have to endure all of that with local. It'll be like having your flesh cut open while still being conscious. Even though I might not feel anything, I still can see the sights, needles, blood, and hear the cracking and smashing noises...

I have to talk to my dentist first and see if local is an option... the problem is he doesn't do consultation, I just have to go in and get it all yanked out on the same day. That is making me more anxious because I don't know what's going to happen... or if they are going to stick a tube down my throat. It appears that's how people die ... when they don't breathe on their own...

The werent grown out: they were still stuck in the gum and vertical ;)

The second wisdom tooth i got removed 3 weeks back and my dentist admitted he realised halfway it was a challenge.

They just open up your gum and pull your tooth out. Its a 3 minute operation and i guarantee youll be amazed how fast and smooth things go and youll look back thinking "was this it?".

With general there is always a risk you will never wake up.
Doctors do so many of these operations and consider the actual
work to be easy, so they say it's standard and routine. However
there is always a chance of dying under general. Lots of things
can go wrong, chemical interactions and allergies, incorrectly
placed tubes and needles, drunken doctors, etc. For smokers the
risks are much higher from what I've been told.

Still it's a very small risk. However as said above. There is no
good reason to put your body through this bashing if you can
stay conscious.

my dentist did it. everything went great except when i woke up i must have been confused or scared because i started crying. but i was able to gather my senses in just a minute and everything was fine.

I had my first one pulled a few years ago when I was 18, that's when it started to come out...it was actaully impacted. It was done by an oral surgent NOt a dentist, Ny dentist actaully sent me to an oral surgent. He put a HUGE needle on my gums, he was very gentle, and I didn't fell any pain. Same thing with the other 2 wisdom teeth. The last one is still there b/c it is on a nerve and can't be removed.

When my husband ggot his done, it was also an orla surgent and he had all 4 pulled at once. He said it hurt just a bit, afterwards his mouth was swollen and he had to eat liquid food for a few days. The medication they give u will make the pain go away.
Good Luck!:thumbsup

Mr Thumbs,

Did you have stitches?? I was convinced that yours were grown out because I thought ones stuck in the gum would be a much more complicated procedure, but that's a good thing that it snapped out easily.

I did have a cavity filled like a week ago but it wasn't that bad, the shot actually didn't hurt at all, and I'm a big baby as you prolly can tell by now. The dentist was very good with administering the shot slowly and he gave me a special ointment first at the injection site so I wouldn't feel the injection.

But the dentist had a tiny bit of trouble because he said I have "tiny mouth". I think my mouth is much smaller than most people, I hope they don't have to use giant pliers or anything like that to yank em' out.

Although it bleeds for 12 hours no stitches are usually required.

My dentist told me he only applies stitches when the patient
has extreme fear of blood or on medicine that makes the blood thin. But stitches slow down the healing process and it makes
the days after more painful (a swollon jaw caused by clogging blood).

You wont feel a thing of the actual extraction.. the only painful part is the injection! And you already had those so be the judge if you can handle that ;)

If no full anaesthesia is required make sure you get up real early that day (skip sleep that night perhaps?) or get some serious exercise before you hit the dentist.. that way when you get back home and the anaesthesia is losing its magic power you can sleep
for 10-12 hours and the healing process takes over!
Usually speeds up healing after any type of small surgery with 2 days.

I wouldn't get knocked out if i were you , unless the dentist seems to think its essential..

I had mine out a few months back , after ignoring repeated messages from my dentist.

I'm man so i wont say i was scared , just aprehensive.. :)

But all in all it was easy and painless , the needles they give you now work great.

One hour , everything was out , 1 stitch on the left side nothing on the other.. tender gums for a week then your a-ok

Don't stress over it. I did and it wasn't shit..

If you get knocked out, no big deal either. More people choke and die on spoons every year than die from getting the gas..

I think the way they do it now is, they give you an i.v. and a little gas to get you under, then they insert a tube down your throat while your passed out and pump small amounts of gas down into your lungs as your vitals rise.

I had my adnoids removed and thats what they did. I was freaked about that too. And again it was no big deal, just a little unnerving..

Your wisdom teeth are impacted, that means a local isn't going to help. Dont worry about it. Everybody says it hurts and they're all a bunch of wimps. Have you ever had a tooth pulled? root canal? It's not much worse. No pain, no gain. Think happy thoughts. :)

Oncle_Benny 03-29-2004 10:00 PM

your gonna be high anyway...

SoundMan 03-29-2004 10:29 PM

2-3 years of pain..

now gone..

If you lose you wisdom teeth,
there will never be any wisdom left for you.
