As someone who has been in this business for 22 years, let me tell you, talent will be among the FIRST to feel the negative effects should the government come down on the industry. If multiple obscenity prosecutions occur, and company owners are forced to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on legal fees, do you really think you're going to continue to demand such high fees and that you're all going to be able to work at the rate that you do now, making thousands every month? A lot of companies won't have the money or the desire to take on the government and will go out of business. That means there will be less work to go around, and a lot more competition for the dwindling jobs that do exist. Your rates will go down if you want to be able to continue working, and you'll have to work two or three times harder to make the same money you did before.

I speak from experience. In the early-mid eighties, I was the new, hot property in the biz, and I was able to command high rates and was able to get them because everyone was making money. Video was bringing adult fare into more homes, business was booming, and there seemed to be no end in sight .

However, when the Republican hammer came down in the late eighties and early nineties, my rate dropped to about an eighth of what it was. I had to take it to pay the rent. Plus, all the big productions that I was so proud to be a part of seemed to dry up too. The term "one-day wonder" became the standard. Imagine spending 20 hours on a set and taking home a small fraction of what you had been able to earn a couple of years ago.

Not to mention getting harrassed by the FBI, followed by the Vice department, and pursued by every aspect of law enforcement to try to get you to roll over on the industry. If you resist, expect the IRS and the Justice Department to crawl up your ass and inspect every facet of your life with a fine tooth comb.

It can happen. It has happened and it will happen if this administration's war on porn is allowed to continue. Again, I speak from experience.

We all have something to lose in this fight. Whether you're talent, an owner, someone who works in the warehouse, a fan or just someone who wants to be able to enjoy his life as an adult , you need to be aware.

You may not think you have a voice, but you do. That voice is your vote. It's the only language politicians understand.
