1125 hits from one IP? Hmm... let's look at it a little.

bash-2.05$ grep "4.65.217.185" access_log.1 | awk '{print $11}' | grep jpg | wc -l
817
bash-2.05$

817 of the referers for this one IP were jpgs redirecting to an HTML page?

No wonder it couldn't possibly convert.

They were thumbnails from Comus Thumbs...

bash-2.05$ grep "4.65.217.185" access_log.1 | awk '{print $11}' | grep jpg | head

Effectively, even if it were a surfer, these thumbs would presumably be called from an img src=

OK, so what fucknut keeps trying to pull up jpgs for this long?

4.65.217.185 - - [20/Mar/2004:19:03:30 -0500] "GET / HTTP/1.0" 200 35991 "http://www.bigmommahosting.com/ct/thumbs/tn85.jpg" "Mozilla/3.0 [en] (AWV2.20r)"

I can't find any reference for what kind of User-Agent that is, but it smells bad to me.

I'm simply writing it off as a purchase I shan't make again... but I was urged to post my experience here by someone who saw this thread, and listened to me rant while I waited out the deluge of shitty traffic.

I have been getting traffic from other brokers which has great TGP productivity, and I'll continue to buy from those places.

I didn't expect amazing conversion ratios, but I *did* expect traffic which would actually see the fucking page.

*sigh*

I better go look through my logs!

I bought 10k 404 traffic not too long ago and it only had about a 10% CTR. Not only that, but only 15% got credit on fpctraffics exit program.

Herb Kornfield 03-29-2004 02:38 PM

50 warnings.... ozzy and john...its been over an hour now since weve started trying to contact////

where are you at about this refund?

cluck 03-29-2004 02:49 PM

Some research.

I get alot of hits from .jpg files from that server too.

For example:
http://www.bigmommahosting.com/www/s...dkrmrv0010.jpg

- redirects to -

http://www.bigmommahosting.com/404/404.html

And sometimes the images for the ezines come up not found. Not sure what the deal is.

Also look at this one.

http://www.bigmommahosting.com/www/p...et5/Index.html

All those broken images are going to sites like easypic, who I suppose either trades with them or bought a package.

Any answers on this?

I had the exact same experience (same domain and everything) when I looked over the server logs of a friend who made a traffic purchase from them. I simply told him not to buy from them again, but since you're posting the exact same experience I think people should know. Well over a thousand were from the same IP, and I believe they were coming from images. I remember one of the biggest page referers was in Chinese (supposed US traffic).

Herb Kornfield 03-29-2004 02:52 PM

Weve found that all of our hits came from bigmommahosting as well.....80% Russian / Chinese traffic....

The reps there still arent answering their emails / cell phones / office phones / ICQs to just take care of the refund Ive been asking for....

Starting to wonder here.....

pradaboy 03-29-2004 03:14 PM

wow Ozzy I'm truly disappointed to see the way you handle this... I was interested at buying traffic at FAT but after this I'm not gonna waste my money on it...

Seems to me you guys have a problem to solve at least in the customer relations section :2 cents:

High Quality 03-29-2004 03:24 PM

Thanks for the heads up man....

eurothumb 03-29-2004 03:51 PM

As lots of you know I run tgpbuilders.com where I buy every month 1Mill hits to the network of sites we are building.

I was looking to FAT a few hours ago wondering if I should buy from them to test them out or not...

THANK GOD I saw this thread.

chrisp420 03-29-2004 03:57 PM

eurothumb,

take my thread as a word to large traffic deals with them:

They paid for his sig with traffic and all of a sudden he turned into a fucking customer service rep for them.

:1orglaugh

SubSonic 03-29-2004 04:31 PM

interesting thread .. so here's a bump :thumbsup

Roger 03-29-2004 04:31 PM

I bought some clicked traffic from FAT and I got a few signups. All the other traffic brokers never gave me any signups whatsoever, I usually had to send the traffic to TGP's.

strobi 03-29-2004 04:35 PM

ouch and they just bought alot of sigssssss:(

LOL Fast Adult Traffic just bought his sig... unless they already sended him the traffic (in exchange of sig) .. which I would doubt.. how the fuck can he say "Very productive traffic :thumbsup "

:1orglaugh oh my...

SubSonic 03-29-2004 04:40 PM

seems, that the rep went to shit with that thread ... :2 cents:

guess so... bad news travels fast:(

the_wizz 03-29-2004 04:43 PM

I had this same experience a month or so ago. Except my hits came in a two hour window on a saturday or sunday morning.

Needless to say, I don't buy from them any more.

strobi 03-29-2004 04:46 PM

http://www.bigmommahosting.com/www/p...et5/Index.html

hahaha!!! that page is wild! look at the status bar! Easypic... and alot of others too!

rowan 03-29-2004 04:54 PM

That's the problem with 404 traffic, brokers don't properly filter it and pass through img srcs as site loads.

Even the biggies are not immune, I've had this happen with a large well known traffic guy. A particular thumb TGP had every thumb 404 (sounds familiar?) and so every time it was loaded about 100 img srcs got passed through to me as unique clicked traffic. They were really raw img srcs of course.

There's a variable called HTTP_ACCEPT (I think) which specifies the type of data the browser will accept. If it's an img src then that field will not include the phrase "text/html" and it shouldn't be passed through to buyers.

Thank goodness I read this thread. I was going to start purchasing traffic from them but there is now ways I'm doing that now.

TheSenator 03-29-2004 10:59 PM

Can anyone list reputable Traffic Brokers?

I've personally sampled/tested every source of traffic listed on <a href="http://www.cdsmodels.com/traffic.html" TARGET="_blank">Paid Traffic Source</a>.

All clicked link sources, so it basically comes down to how good your marketing/webmastering skills are.

I don't promote sources with popup/under, exit, or 404 traffic. I've always found that those surfers mostly click the X and close the window, thus wasting your bandwidth and making you squat. Unless you're very sharp at converting that kind of traffic, clicked link traffic is the way to go.

Malaka,... if I were you I would lose the "looking for drama" attitude and keep it professional on this type of thread.

Ozzy.... if I were YOU I would make things right by this guy and shoot him just over 5k more hits. That's a small pittance to show everyone here that you're running a tight ship.

It's only what I would do, take it or leave it.

:thumbsup i totally agree with CD

jft 03-30-2004 08:21 AM

We bought a load of hits from F.A.T and it was utterly rubbish....

The links the traffic came from were all from pop up hell.
*Very* unproductive traffic.

We wont be using them again.

:2 cents:

jft 03-30-2004 08:26 AM

okay board - i just wanna say - i got fucking flamed a while ago for suggesting FAT was bad service and shit value..
