Bootup question for any XP experts in here.

On one of the new PC's I just got for our offices, after it completes the boot up to the operating system start to load part it just goes black screen on the first attempt. If you hit the reset button it completes the first part of the boot process and then Windows XP starts to load like it should.

For some reason its not going into the operating systeme bootup until the 2nd reset then everything goes fine into the startup.

Any thoughts what that could be. I'm thinking maybe a switch on the motherboard is set for the CPU to go into overclocking mode, but the AMD 2500 in there isn't showing as being overclocked when I checked the CPU speed.

Anything else??

Do you get the windows loader screen (the one with the blue scrolling bar) or what... Knowing exactly where its freezing is important.

KRL

First goto your \windows\prefetch\ DIR and DEL EVERYTHING in it.
then reboot.

ANother thing to try....

uninstall your graphics card drivers.
then run the regvac trial in novice mode (just click clean registry)

http://www.softcities.com/download.a...om/regvacz.exe

Then reinstall your graphics drivers.

IF its freezing right before or jsut immediatly after the boot logo comes up it could be drivers or a prefetch problem.

Hi KRL , it's matter of your DDR memory , you might having some conflict in the module , check if they installed correctly (we are talking about dual ddr , right ? ) , and try change their slots. it's should solve the problem , best of luck.

Thanks, I'll check both of those suggestions. It might be the dual DDR memory sticks cause there is a motherboard swithc on that ASUS board for that and I bet when they were being assembled by my tech he forgot to set that.

I had that same problem

Check the DDR Chips Try only 1 then the other then check the video card..
If it keeps doing that You need to get another motherboard..

It's shorting something...

I threw away my 266 biostar because it was fucking up.

I switched to a ASUS A7VN8X-DX

Works flawless!
