gas price woes... (again)

Quote:

Worries mount about soaring gas prices
High crude prices seen limiting refinery output

NEW YORK - As oil prices hovered near a 14-year high, there is growing speculation that gasoline this summer could reach a national average of $2 per gallon, and even higher in some regions.

Dwindling stockpiles and increasing demand have put new pressure on both crude oil prices and the tab at the gas pump, analysts said.

linkage
and while we're finally supposed to be getting a long overdue gas cap here, our governor is running around trying to do everything she can to make that NOT happen....

i don't get it. She is so opposed to the gas cap that it's starting me to think she's getting some sort of kickback or something.

fucking gas.... the never ending problem. Might be a great day when it's finally all gone and we're forced to use something else. Least then we won't have to bitch about gas costs anymore....

The next car I buy is going to be an alternative fuel using vehicle.

I have no idea how my friends who commute through los angeles to work even afford it.

If I was working some shitty day job like I once did years ago in today's job market I have no idea how I would even afford it.

gas prices will never go down.

its been 2.10+ here for over 6 months.

yesterday I paid 2.22 a gallon

gas = power and money, of course there are dirty kickbacks going on. IN a market where gas store owners can literally make up any price they want, kickbacks are bound to appear.

$1.47 a gallon for regular unleaded here. What you have to realize is around 30% of gas prices are for taxes - mostly state. The actual cost of buying the crude oil is less than half of the price you pay at the pump.

damn!

I can't remember the last time I saw $1.47 per gallon..... had to be at least 5 or 6 years ago.

it's been $2.40 per gal for regular for quite a while now.

I should be fair - that price is in the Atlanta burbs. I live in a resort area and it's $1.55 at SprawlMart and $1.63 at the independent stations. But I time my fill ups to buy near Atlanta.

I haven't been to Hawaii since 2000 but I remember how high it was. I also remember sitting for 2 hours chatting with the locals while waiting for the tanker to show up at a station north of Kona.

I look at that and see 65 mpg and 66 horsepower.

My SUV gets 23 mpg on the interstate, seats 7 and what would take me two (maybe even three) trips in an Insight I can do in one in my vehicle. And it has enough power to pull into Atlanta traffic without getting creamed.

I could see a hybrid as a second car for most people, but never as a primary one.

If you're worried about pollution, look at a diesel. There are several which get great mileage and have decent horsepower with a fraction of the emissions of a gas engine. Personally, I'm hoping the F150 will come out with a diesel engine so I don't have to look at the F250 in order to buy one.

hmmm.... interesting. Not sure I could get away with not having my SUV though.... seats fold down and I can haul tons of stuff that I could never do with one of those. But for normal driving around it would be great here.

Same here. Good 'ole Southeast.

I paid 1.65 for it a week or so ago, but I noticed on that gas prices site someone linked, that the exact station I bought it from was the highest in the county, lol. I stopped at another one on my way to a friend's house yesterday and got it for 1.53. Gas prices have never reached $2 here. I don't even remember them ever being over 1.75, as a matter of fact.
