Stanford economics professor's article:

http://www.townhall.com/columnists/t...20040316.shtml

"A recent poll of economists by the Wall Street Journal found that only 16 percent of them saw outsourcing as having a significant impact on the over-all job picture. More important, the political remedies being suggested to stop outsourcing are virtually guaranteed to make things worse."

in a global economy outsourcing helps everyone. becuase it creates new markets in foriegn countries to buy our products. as for us losing jobs, i dont worry. we have a new "fad" job created every 5 - 10 years......so all of our unemployed will move to new and different fields

holla back

I agree 100%

Protectionists (whether they try to restrict goods or services) see the world as a FIXED PIE wherein if the foreign slice gets bigger the US slice necessarily has to lose out.

Economists know that the better analogy is that trade EXPANDS the pie because of the multiplier effect that capital has on international demand which only means good news for developed countries.

Unfortunately, politicians don't use basic economics. It's all about the politics of fear which they use to convert into votes.

Unfortunately the policies resulting from such politics may harm the economy rather than help it.

Yes. Outsourcing helps economies by fuelling technology transfer and broadening markets.

Outsourcing hurts the economy period.

So long as 1 dollar is worth more in another country its going to hurt the domestic well being and the economy of the US.

There is no doubt about it.

Technologists like us have not really felt the impact of outsourcing till recently thats why it is ablaze now in the media.

No one really gave a fcuk about Detroit.
No one really gave a fuck about Nike's and textiles in near slave labor camps over sea's...

The aftermath in America was layoff's home losses and foreclosures. The nasty shit the media don't talk about.

Bottom line is jobs for quite some time have been slowly trickling out leaving the common American unemployed or requiring them to reinvent them selves with a new carreer entailing more expenses in education.

Its not lookin good...
Unless your already rich.

Thanks, gornyhuy. Outsourcing actually helps the US economy because instead of investing money in low margin labor, businesses can invest on expansion or R & D/marketing (which are US expertise)

If your labor is "low margin" then you are doing something wrong as a company. Employees add value to an organization, anyone that has ever worked in the real world can tell you that.
