Most of spanish people ... 73%! were agains the spanish attendance at Iraq from the day one

OK, Wilber. I don't hear people older than 18 using "owned" in every day conversation. Perhaps the circles you swim in are different. Generally i'm not fooled easily, but you pulled the wool over my eyes with your " I'm a smart-ass kid " impression.

I have it on good authority that you're a key advisor in this administration.

Care to respond? ;)

Probably similar to the way muslims feel about having rocket propelled grenades fired at them.

just pissed at the status of some things, dont take it personal.

I get tired of seeing people be prowar on this board, when its not them footing the lives.

Got a cousin who before he left for iraq, was not old enough to drink.

Im pretty sure he just had his 21st bday on foreign soil.

we sit here and yap all day about Bush and war, this and SPain that.

But its kids out there serving, and living the fear of war, not us on the board.

Id like to see my troops come home too.

but by the same token, you're not the one that's doing the dirty work "over there" either.

and on that note, honestly, what difference does it make if it's Iraq, Afghanistan, or anywhere else? There's no draft. No one was forced to swear that oath and sign that paper. They did it of their own free will. Same as I did 17 years ago. Same as every single soldier that's serving. They knew what they were joining, and if they didn't, then they shouldn't have joined in the first place.

It's not a college course and it's not a vacation in the Bahamas.... it's a military machine. And when you opt into becoming a part of that machine, you go where they tell you to go, and you do what they tell you to do.

Whether a particular soldier is old enough to drink is completely irrelevant to anything. He's (she's) a soldier. And a soldier's business is killing. When, where, and how the military sees fit. Whether anyone back home likes it or not.

If I may go so far as to ask.... if this is causing you so much anguish, did you attempt to talk your particular family member out of joining in the first place?

He didn't have to go after all, and has been actively protesting against the war when he can.

Probably because he served in VN and killed enough men, women and children to last him a lifetime.

And since that got him so far in life, well he made his decision.

Its a little different with my cousin.

He didnt exactly "opt in"

He is there because he was in trouble with the law.

And the judge said, you can either go to jail, or join the military.

which would you choose?

So for a lighter sentence my sousin at 19 years old joined the military for a 4 year term.

Look where it got him.

On the same note though, Cherry quoted her Green beret uncle who is against the war too. And he serrved in Nam, Desert Storm, and this one.

"Why send me to iraq to pusy Muslims around? I can do that here."

:thumbsup

Sounds like he is a bit confused as to where his loyalties lay.
A defender of the Nation or a protester.

Amputate Your Head 03-15-2004 09:32 PM

to be honest, I can't imagine choosing jail over military in any situation.... as much as I disliked military life, I would've done the same thing.
