You dont always have to be an innovator to make money of the idea all you need to know is when to strike with your program.

Being honest...I don't pay attention to what other phone sex companies do. I rarely even look at their sites.

if you are smart you don't lead or follow.
watch what others are doing, success and failure, then formulate you own plan from what you have learned.
let others take the fall, you just capitalise on their mistakes.
