logos are worth MORE then 50 dollars

the going rate for a logo should be at least 500-1000 US dollars im amazed at all the 50 requests for logos

what is even more shocking is ppl do it for that price

I agree that they are worth more than what is usually offered here, though several people have run some nice contests. However, it is supply and demand.... as long as someone is willing do build one for $50, people are going to offer $50.

How many hours does a good logo take to produce?

3-6 hours max?

6 x $50 an hour = $300

$300 is the highest I would pay for a VERY high quality logo.

Not everyone has millions. Some design just for the challenge from time to time.

I am doubtful of logos going for 1000 on GFY. Thats often the mainstream low end figure. I haven't seen too many in adult looking for a logo that care a great deal about brand identity.

It would be interesting to have designers post a basic estimate for a design rate for a logo. I am curious as to what the GFY average really looks like.

I do agree on the point, people often underestimate a designs worth. I had someone pop up on ICQ wanting 2 logos and a site template for $25.

So tell me...how long does a good logo take to produce?

I hope you're not trying to say 20+ hours.

Either that or you think designers should get $200 a hour.

integrated is right they are worth that much and we would fucking gladly pay that much for a decent logo. We have gotten in bad situations because we paid less or didnt go to a professional. I actually spent more money not paying more!! I wish Id just paid the $600 to begin with instead I paid some kid who didnt give a shit about my company acted somewhat like it was a joke. Then you end up paying a million different people to make changes or redo it or do it in the right format so its high res or print ready. In our situation we needed something for clothing so it was very important to us. We may hold a gfy logo contest to save money and it will be fun also!!!

for a simple logo $50 should be fine..and $150+ for a slick logo

problem is with a contest that you make a logo for $50 wich might not even be chosen and you made $0 for your work

So it must have a certain lottery price attached to it..like the banner contest for $200..even though i don't have the time i make some as i find it an interesting price

$50 wouldn't have caught my attention

I wouldn't hold a logo contest unless you spec what your looking for and not looking for. Detail what your company is about.

Allot of contests I have witnessed diverge into designer upon designer grasping at straws trying to play the role of pixel pushing clairvoyants.

Be sure to offer the largest prize possible, and set a reasonable time frame for the contest close date. In short don't look at a contest as a way to save money.

Another tip is to have people who's judgement you trust and who know your company well give you feed back. Print the better entries off and show them around.

You r right! thanks for the advice. We have great logos that we are using now but we need more, we want a variety to place on the clothes and we need a company logo. Also a logo contest is a great way to see a lot of different ideas from different artists which is great, we may offer more $ as incentive

globalization and the Internet has rendered all these 'industry standard' prices useless - unless you're a company that doesn't mind paying for somebody else's expensive overhead.

Go to DesignOutpost and take a look at their logo contests - you can get a logo there that is the equal of any hotshot design firm that would charge you god knows what - go to a top corporate identity design firm and u could pay 10 grand. Hell there are firms who do nothing but come up with company names who charge HUGE money. If u like to pay top dollar for everything go ahead but nowadays anything can found for cheap on the Internet.

I never go for the lowest price on anything - not only is it usually true 'you get what you pay for' but also when you bargain down
somebody to a bargain basement price the followup treatment you get is gonna suck. I'd rather go back to the car dealership and have people like me rather than give me attitude because i'm the guy the salesman spent 4 hours with and he made $300.

There were bandwidth providers awhile back screaming about cogent....

"How can they sell for $30 a megabit!!? Are they crazy?!!? They will be out of business soon!!"

Now of course most providers will offer bandwidth around that price.

When just two years ago the same bandwidth commits would cost you 5-10 times more

Much more bandwidth is bought and used now... so did Cogent destroy a market or create one?

I would also be sure to note whether you're looking for a logo, or logo-type.

If it's clothing you can never be short on detail. Does a url need to be included in the design? What types of clothing are you looking to set the logo on? Web site urls don't look good on thongs, and can throw off a design. Does a baseball cap need really need to spell out your companies name? What type of demographic will be wearing the clothing? Etc.

depends on the time it takes as well as what the logo is for. A paysite logo should be more unique and better done, than let's say a tgp galleries logo...
