Overall, fishing around and asking who else 'got the call' is not the point here. The point is they called YOU. You, who have promoted them for what, 6 years you said? You would think a sponsor like that would be treating you like gold.
I'm curious though. Was this someone in the company such as the owner who called you, or just some new sales guy? Perhaps someone is getting a little overly aggressive in the sales department when he/she shouldn't be? If it's some sales guy, you should phone the owner immediately or someone in upper management and report this person.

What do you mean "..at any point if you feel this information would be beneficial to webmasters.." ???
The point IS now. You got the call, you got the proof first hand. What more do you need? And yes, it IS important and 'beneficial to all webmasters' because nobody wants to send traffic to a sponsor that will end up fucking them over anyway, or phone them with threats of doing so.
As if worrying about Visa/MC or other important industry matters isn't bad enough these days. Now we have to worry about rebills and/or threats to? Of course it's critical to know who it is.
Either way, do what you feel is best. Hopefully it was just some new sales guy trying to score points. You should call them first thing if it was.
Good luck with your situation.
