money = happiness

as wonderful as large amounts of cash might be, it's only one of many components that add up to happiness.

those who feel the simple equation money=happiness, haven't got a clue in my opinion, and likely have never been there. what do you think?

Money can buy things to make you happy, but if you don't have a person to share them with that you actually love or care for, you've got nothing but a shitload of useless things that make you feel like somebody.

I'd rather be a nobody with loved ones than a somebody with stacks of wasted paper.

there's a track by a canadian rapper and the chorus is "money can't buy me happiness. but i'm happy, so i can buy what i want, anytime that i want"

good track.

The problem is most people don't have the luxury to get to the point where they dont HAVE to worry about money.

For me, money isnt about being able to buy everything, its about having peace of mind and being able to enjoy what I like without having to worry about how much i'll make, whether I can afford it, etc.

Good post, Quiet.

Other components to happiness would be (for me at least)

Creating something new

Overcoming obstacles

A sense of wonder

you are right, happiness is more than MERE money....however, with the financial issues handled in life it makes it a lot easier to address the higher issues...

I will always recommend to get the money shit out of the way so you can work on the more fun and important shit in life...

i've been rich and poor, i find happyness is more a function of the social structure around you than your financial staus. One of the happiest times of my life was when I was poorest - in university. Worked while in school - left with huge debt too, but I loved it cause I had soo much fun and great friends, mind you right now is just as good or better with all the people I've met and hang with in his biz.

i know where you're coming from, and i want to agree with you. but if i'm completely honest, the BEST days of my life were my University years. this included struggling to pay the bills, living on a shoe string, etc. no money for anything. the best years of my life.

2nd best time of my life was directly before uni, living in staff accommodations at a ski resort. fuck all for money.

but of course, money is a wonderful thing...

I saw a study done that said the price of happiness was 350k a year. While it opens you up to new hassles and lifestyle increases to fit your wage it does typically erase the traditional "we don't have enough money" (as in to eat not have an in house chef/nanny) - "look at all our bills" (as in power not porsche payments) hassles and they are the happiest strata of people.

it certainly doesn't equal happiness but it does remove a source of unhappiness or at the very least relationship tension.

very true. i remember being 18 years old, working 25-35 hours a week at mcdonalds, going to class during the day and partying hard on weekends with my girlfriend and friends. it was a great time! of course, i skipped all my classes and dropped out, but still, it was a great time!

are they the best years of your life in retrospect or did you feel the same at the time?

because when i was doing 35 hours of class and 35 hours of mcdonalds, i thought it sucked. but in retrospect, i had a great time.

i knew i was enjoing myself at college.

I know I'm enjoying myself now.

there was a few years there in the financial biz that I didn't enjoy, but I don't regret them for a second.

I have more money than I will ever spend in my lifetime...not that I couldn't...I just will not spend it. My needs are simple and I am not into the material. I would give every penny that I have and be HAPPY to work at minimum wage if I had could only have my good health back.

In my opinion money is low on the list for being a component that equates to happiness.

Money can add to happiness

Money can add to unhapiness

Money can solve problems

Money can cause problems

Money can be a tool to do great things

Money can be a tool to hurt people

Money can contribute to making better choices

Money can contribute to making horrible choices

Money is not the root of all evil

Money does not = hapiness

Money can make a very wise man do foolish things

Money can not make a fool a wise man

<b>The most important things in life are FREE - money can not buy unconditional friendship and love </b>

too complicated for me to explain, happieness can = money
if everything else in your life is "perfect" relationships, health etc.
in that case you feel the only thing left for you to be happy is $$$.

Most people assume that one thing will make them happy and it is always the thing that's missing in their life, be it Health, Money
a partner to love etc...
very few ppl have everything

What couldn't you buy?

What couldn't you do?

With ample money you have the freedom to do whatever crosses your mind.

However... the lower on funds you are, the shorter your list of things you can do becomes.
