Hosting the tournament on their servers. I've looked around for poker software to run the tournaments myself but the prices are insane and most of them take about 5 servers to run the software (2 game servers, 2 database servers, 1 web server).

Hey I'm not player hating. I think you are a cool guy as far as I can tell (which isn't far). You should be worried about getting great prizes for the tourneys. That is what will pay off for you in the end. Build it up free for boards, but prize required for winner. This will get you so many more players to eventually ( or now ) hit with paid ads.

I think you may not be seeing the forest for the trees...
