Wireless network help

Is there an easier way for me to set up my laptop on my network without having to buy a wireless router and wireless card?

lemme just make sure I got this right before I say anything else....

you don't have a wireless router, nor a wireless adapter, and you want to create a wireless LAN..... that about right?

what form of magical pink pixie dust are you planning on accomplishing this with?

I've got a Sony Vaio Centrino based laptop w/Integrated wireless LAN. So if your laptop is new and has integrated wireless lan you won't need a wireless network card since it's built in.

I'm not sure if you can do peer to peer with it though. I know there's a option that allows you to configure your internet connection to allow others to surf through it though.

So I guess it may be possible to do what you want, provided you are able to network peer to peer with the laptop and configure your laptop connection to allow other systems on the network to surf through it.

Having a wireless router would be the ideal way though.

Actually I was hoping there was something I could use, using bluetooth technology. Perhaps a usb adaptor or something.

Bluetooth can't handle the speeds your going to want for internet browsing.

Yes you can Run Ad-hoc, for instance right now I'm on a sony vaio usin internet connection sharing on my Apple Powermac G5, bouncing the signal off it pretty much.

I have a router, a good one at that, but I had to disable it.

So no you cant run it via bluetooth, the bandwidth isnt good enough, you can have a computer or a laptop use dialup or fax through the bluetooth, i.e. you could browse the net on the road off your phone at slow speeds.

The new Nokia phones have Edge as well which if you pay for data you can use that network, otherwise what I was mentioning just using it like a telephone call.

Well if you have a regular router then you need:

1) Wireless Access Point that plugs into a router port.
2) A USB wireless ethernet adapter

I have an IBM X-21 notebook and this setup works very well.....
I would guess you get both for under $80 if you shop around..
