So what if it was easier 5 years ago, if you are smart you'll take advantage of what you have today. If your shit don't work fix it.

Word, brother.

I really considered my first friend in this industry was shemp.I look up to because how he is with his buisness and how warm hearted he is and truley the sweetest guy i have met to date.

Aaron, you know I speak my mind.. I look up to you because I am still very new in this industry and you have helped me out figuring which path is best for me to take. I can count on my fingers people who have given me some great insight and pointed me in the right direction since I have started. I look to you more as a friend than a biz contact to be honest. Cant say how many times i have always appreciated your help..

So am I kissing ass?? no im just saying how i feel.. I can say the same about some others here as well. even ones that have not given me direct help they have supported me with my ventures.. I can honestly say i have made some close friends since i have started and those whom i respect and support with their ventures..

magnatique 03-06-2004 05:20 PM

I guess for me it's about who earns my respect and who looses it...

I usually will support people that I believe would do the same towards me... While I would probably help a bunch of people if they need my help, I will not give away so freely my trust or more restricted info to people I don't know personally for years...

So if you see me support someone, it's either because he's earned my respect , or because I've known the people for a while, or have done good business with them.

But I do agree there's a lot of people giving support to people they've never met, never talked to or never contacted... I guess that's life heh

angeleyes 03-06-2004 05:21 PM

I don't have my lips attached to anybody?s ass.

I look up to people for courage, honesty, generosity, selflessness and success without stepping on people along the way.

For me, respect is earned, not dished out.

In all honesty that's a tough question. I don't know if there really is anyone I truly, truly look up to in this biz. Lots of people have accomplished a lot in this biz and I have respect for what they've done. But to say I actually "look up to someone" is almost like saying you think they are better than you. Not to sound overly cocky and full of himself, but I really don't think anyone is better than me. What I mean by that is I feel I'm EQUAL to anyone else and those that have accomplished more just had a different opportunity (timing etc.).

No matter how you word the point of this thread....In now way do I feel that by looking up to somebody that you are admitting that they are better than you.

When I was 16, the uncle of a friend of mine told me the following:

"Always remember that nobody is better than you."

Good points.

So I guess then it really comes down to that I have a lot of respect for lots of people in this biz. Of course you're going to have respect for the top program owners making millions. But that's a superficial respect. If you don't know the person then you can just repect the fact they've accomplished a lot.

But those that I do know personaly and have worked with and have proven to be honest, ethical business people, they I have a great respect for.

Oh, this has nothing to do with money either.

I respect those that have been down and out, yet turn their life around for the better without being a bitter bitch. Too much bitterness these days.

I just don't get it.

You think you know me? I can count the number of GFY members who have been to my house on one hand and still have enough fingers left to flip you off and hitch a ride on the freeway.

Don't get me wrong...I appreciate the support but exactly what is it that you think you are supporting?

I admire people who:

1.) Don't pick fights with people.
2.) Do not speak abusively in public.
3.) Do not discuss private business in public forums.

Oh yes, I also admire people with hair.

What was that about picking fights with people?

You're a hypocrite and that's why you will remain a lonely, bitter, old man.

Let that sink in while you are combing your hair.

i think people are trying to curry favor with you because they think it will benefit their business in some way... i dunno, i dont look up to anyone on this board... i see things that some people have done and can do and i respect their ability but that has nothing to do with their post count, stature or whatever... i dont kiss anyones ass, i could care less about that shit... im not big on joint business efforts and even if i was i wouldnt be a brown noser... i just call em like i see em

Shit, I so want to go to. Now I feel like buying a last minute ticket, lol. I've never been to Mexico either.

Actually the main reason I decided against is because I'm planning on hitting the Amsterdam show and while there I'm going to visit family in Italy. So that'll be a long vacation as it is.

Hey try to hit Amsterdam. That place is a blast!

baddog 03-06-2004 06:00 PM

to be serious for a few moments, I am not really sure if I look uo to anyone, it is more about respect, and that can range from my kids, to a multi-millionaire, to the guy standing on the freeway offramp selling oranges that is there day in and day out, rain or shine operating in survival mode.

I respect the achievers, the non-bullshitters, and young people that acknowledge that rap music is not really music at all, or anything special. I respect honest people.

I also respect AaronM for making himself what he has in such a relatively short time. It really is all about appearances in this business, and he has done a fine job.

I figure people suck up to you because you're succesfull and (Im assuming) a nice guy. The more succesfull you are at what you do, the more praise you get.

Look at rally racing or something, the best drivers also have the biggest fanbase :winkwink:

Babagirls 03-06-2004 06:35 PM

i dont look up to anyone.

not my personality. i just do what i gotta do and live and learn by trial and error.

if you look up to someone, then that means your are less than that person. i dont think im anyone is "above" me.

:2 cents:

As much as I adore you, I HAVE to look up to you.

After all, you ARE taller.

phalfa 03-06-2004 09:30 PM

If you all want someone to look up to, you can start with the people that accually do something that makes a difference in all our lives.

like firefighters, ambulance attendants, police officers, soldiers, ER doctors and nurses, coast guard rescue .........etc.

These people don't ask to be looked up to, but the next time one of them saves the life of a loved one, you may look back on this thread and see how small we all tend to think at times.
