Howard Stern going off air because of comments about Bush?

There have long been speculations about the connections, at least in spirit, between the Bush Administration, and the nation's largest owner of broadcast stations, Clear Channel. Yesterday, on live radio, Howard Stern made it clear he's convinced the pressure on him is not related to obscenity concerns, but over his very vocal dislike of President Bush.

Stern has also started to question ties between Clear Channel and the Bush Administration and now suggests his change in heart about his support for President Bush is the real reason for him being suspended by Clear Channel. "If you don' t think me going after Bush got me thrown off those stations, you got another thing coming," said Stern. "This has nothing to do with anything I said."

From the moment last week when Clear Channel Communications suspended Howard Stern's syndicated morning show from the company's radio stations, denouncing it as "vulgar, offensive and insulting," speculation erupted that the move had more to do with Stern's politics than his raunchy shock-jock shtick.

the FCC has ALWAYS been gunning for him . . . . I think this is more of a Clear Channel issue, since he is still on most of the stations . . . he was only dropped from the 5 or 6 Clear Channel markets

Indeed...

Oh well, hopefully this will hurt Bush's campaign if anything.

While clear channel is a company and I support their right to do what they want, it is very dangerous for a company to have a monopoly on a segment of broadcasting when they will only allow one point of view.

We had one local clearchannel AM guy Charles Goyette that was against the war, and at that time I think it was our newspaper that said clearchannel only allowed one point of view. I remember clearly another talk show host talking about this and making fun of it saying I guess Goyette didn't get the memo that we have to be for the war.

Well, I guess he eventually did get the message because they moved him to a nighttime spot, right before Coast to Coast comes on.

Fuck clearchannel, and fuck the FCC.
