how much will this laptop cost to fix

I have a laptop and the place where I connect the power supply to the back of the laptop is fucked up. Its disconnected or loose or something, and its connected to the motherboard.

Any idea how much this will cost to get fixed at a computer repair shop? Not under warranty

I had the same problem with my old Tecra 8000.......it had nothing to do with the power cord... the tech guy suggested that I not repair it and just get a new one. (He wasn't trying to sell me anything, it was a repair depot). I forget the problem now because I buy a new one each year and that was ages ago.... I can look it up if you want me to... If so, hit me up on icq. Goodluck!

when did you buy it and what brand is it, sometimes your warranty will surprise you... compaq's warranty plans fucking kick mad ass... i dont know if you called to check on the warranty or not but you might want to look for the parts you need on ebay, even if its the complete motherboard... see what that goes for and call the manufacturer and see what they would charge to repair it if its not under warranty

What a bunch of dumb answers.. spend $1k to fix a perfectly good fast laptop, or buy a new one for $2k. No wonder so many people in adult are losing money.

Well, it sounds like a simple issue of taking the laptop apart, pulling out the motherboard and then resoldering the power connector on. Easier said than done. I could do it, but it'd take me a couple hours. I too would be interested in buying it off you, depending on the specs.

First look on ebay for another mother board, I am going through that same problem with my compaq p 2100us lucky I Have it covered they are to be here by monday to pick it up, everywhere I called I got it would be better to buy a new one or find another mother board.

There is another thing its a power converter look in google power conectors for lap tops etc... what it does it jumps the old power part and stays firm. Mine didnt have one so I had to send the whole thing in hoping they will just replace the mother board.

the power connector is quite an easy fix. It would probably cost you minimum shop charge to take the laptop apart and fix the connector.

Do you have a Fry's Electronics where you live??

You can also check craigs list under computer services

detoxed,

it very much depends on the brand if its worth it. For Sony for example, to fix such a bug, is basically as expensive as buying a new one.

You MIGHT get lucky and get someone who can fix the motherboard without exchanging it, I would just look around for a good repair shop and ask them.

It is rather likely that they need to exchange the motherboard though, and thats really expensive since spare-part mobos are almost as expensive as equivilant new notebooks.
