[Breaking News] All the details about the new Yahoo! Inclusion program. Prepare the $

http://www.content.overture.com/d/USm/ays/sm.jhtml

This is ridiculous (insane would be more appropriate). I knew that one day or another the "free search engine" would be a thing of the past.. but this!?.

It's going to be like Inktomi

You pay to include it in the search, but no guarantee about the ranking.

Then it's 0,15 cents per click.

When you initiate your Site Match subscription, a non-refundable annual review fee is charged for setting up your account and for quality review of your pages.

Once your pages are accepted into the program, a cost-per-click fee is charged for each lead driven to your site.

URL Submission (non-refundable annual fee, per domain)

First URL: $49
Next 2-10 URLs: $29 each
11th URL and beyond: $10 each

Cost-Per-Click Fee
Tier 1 Categories ($0,15):
Adult
Automotive
Books
Computers & Software
Dating
Education & Career
Jewelry & Watches
Music & Video
Office
Other
Reference
Sports & Outdoors
Toys & Baby Equipment

Tier 2 Categories ($0,30)::
Apparel
Electronics
Financial Services
Flowers, Gifts & Registry
Health, Beauty & Personal Care
Home & Garden
Professional Services
Real Estate
Telecom & Web Services
Travel

---------------------------------------------

This is the new Yahoo PFI program explained in detail.

Just when they had me convinced that the "new" Yahoo PFI was going to somehow be different than the old Inktomi PFI, this proves that Yahoo has not learned anything.

Look at this quote:

"Choose Pages for Inclusion: Submit a few pages of content or include your entire site to maximize your exposure."

Yahoo is admitting here that if you want to get your whole site indexed, you need to PAY to include all that content. In other words, if you submit just a "few pages", those are the only pages that will get indexed.

This means that, just like Inktomi, they care more about the quick buck than spidering the whole web and refreshing it often to provide the best possible index. The folks at Yahoo know that that it's deceptive to allow paid listing in the "pure" results, but they also know that 80% of people click on the natural listtings... and they just cant resist the temptation to monetize it.

... just wait until the FTC knocks on their door with deceptive advertising claims. Perhaps that's the only way they will be forced to change their ways.

"How much does it cost to use Site Match?
Site Match subscribers who submit less than 1,000 URLs pay an annual review fee, which breaks down as follows:
First URL: $49
URLs 2-10: $29 each
URLs 11-999: $10 each

Subscribers then pay a fixed cost-per-click for each customer lead that clicks on their listing. For most content categories, the cost-per-click is $0.15, while select categories are priced at $0.30 per click."
Adding it it's one thing, you will have to pay per click too. I guess some people can afford it.

u know, ppl at yahoo have children too

they have to drink champagne and swim in a pool filled with evian water.

before u start the hate, put urself in their shoes.

"how will u be able to send ur slack-off no good son to an ivy leage university if his father/mother cant afford to bribe the university?"

Did Yahoo not learn anything about why Google became the success that it is?

Google became successful because it produced better search results than any other search engine.

The only way to beat Google now is to provide even better (ie: accurate) results. Paid placements are not accurate.

Microsoft is dropping huge $$$ to develop a SE that will be even better than Google. Looks like Yahoo is going to be a distant #3 soon.

Provide better & more accurate search results or die. That's the name of the SE game.

I wouldn't really count on M$ not doing their best to monetize the results too.

Yahoo is number one and they are pushing their advantage while they can. Good news is most of us can't pay that price. They will have to feed spidered pages into the results to have results at all.

What a joke. I have to say even if someone provided better search results than Google with such a program, I would never switch to surfing with them. One good thing about Google is that they have a loyal surfer base (mainly because they don't shove ads in your face everywhere, etc).

Stuff like this shouldn't be unexpected.

For the longest time Yahoo was basically the world's largest free online content provider that charged for nothing at all, and their bottom line reflected that. They've recently started towards charging for select services in some way, and it is paying off for them.

I'm surprised the general public at some point in Yahoo's history was never blocked out and the services packaged exclusively along with an ISP plan in a nice program similar to how AOL works.

Another question: What the fuck happens to the rest of the web? Sure for Yahoo the web may be one big cash cow, but for many it is a great resource for information. Who in their right mind would pay $49 inclusion (without this bullshit .15cent per click even) to submit one of their essays located on a freehost to a search engine?

yeah you're right. a lot of those sites will never be found. i guess the SE's need to find some way to cash in.

we won't even notice those sites are missing. because we can't miss what we don't know exists.

This is the worst long-term strategy I've ever heard

If you want to be a player in the SE game long-term, you NEED to provide the best & most accurate search results.

Yahoo will make some quick money from this, but the search results will suck and people will continue to migrate over to Google as they have been because Google provides the best search results.

Provide the best & most accurate search results and you will get the unique visitors.

Provide shitty results full of paid placements and you will lose unique visitors.

I just got an email from Overture. You can sign-up TODAY to be included in their Site Matching.

"Introducing Site Match, Overture's new paid inclusion product. The Site Match program works as a complement to your Pay-for-Performance Search program. It enables your Web pages to be included in the database that powers the standard search results (those appearing in the main body of the page) distributed to over 75 percent* of active Internet users, increasing your coverage and bringing you more customers.

Site Match listings appear in the main body of the search results

The Site Match program offers many unique benefits, including:

A fast and easy submission process

Minimal account management, saving you valuable time

A single point of submission into a database that powers search results for multiple engines and portals, including Yahoo! AltaVista, AlltheWeb and others

Content refreshed every 48 hours, ensuring that your most up-to-date pages are in the database

A quality review process that provides search users with highly relevant results, as well as additional targeted leads to Web sites approved for inclusion in the database

High return on investment (ROI) with a low annual subscription fee and cost-per-click pricing model

A dedicated account representative and convenient XML feed for advertisers submitting 1,000 or more Web pages

By broadening your search marketing program with Site Match, your business will receive maximum exposure on the search results page and more targeted customer leads. To learn more about the Site Match program or to sign up, click on one of the links below."

Sad part is I actually paid Inktomi last week for my inclusion on yahoo, becasue I do not like Overture, yesterday the URL was 404 and my URL was not approved yet, so I thought my money was gone.

Today I see the Inktomi URL changed to an Overturse URL so now I am stuck with them as well. I think Overtuse are ripping people off. Too bad there's no ther companies where we could go.

I think that a lot of surfer will switch for google now. I mean for the user of yahoo. In about 3-4 month we should see a huge drop if there is a paid spot for them.

Agreed. My average is $0.07. Anything above $0.15 isn't worth it.
