Aristide wants it both ways. He wanted a safe and controlled passage, but then spins his "departure" as against his will. It sounds like a lame attempt to save face to me. He'd probably be gutted in the streets right now, with thousands more dead, if he stayed behind.

Aristide started as a champion of democracy, but like many, ended up abusing his office. About the only one who doesn't see his departure as a good thing is Aristide.
