Help! Stolen content... ideas?

Well.. it finally happened. We ran across a site that has some of our pictures on it. At this point, we see them in their preview section, and haven't ventured into the members area yet.

I have a few ideas of what to do... but I'd like to know what you guys do, or have done, and what results were had.

Let us know!

1. Nicely email site owner requesting removal
2. Retain I.P. lawyer
3. Issue C&D with CCs to hosting provider
4. File law suit

It happened to me once and all I did was email the guy and asked him to remove the images. And he did w/ no problem. If that doesn't work, then a cease and desist letter should do it.

Usually it's best to start out being nice. But don't forget, this is 2004 - there really aren't many excuses for stealing content.

I had the same thing yesterday...email abuse@whoevertheyhost with, the site, and their processor giving them the exact url of the page with the infringement and official notice, tell them DMCA takedown notice will follow if not corrected within 24 hours.

My prob yesterday has already vanished from the internet

You should email him first, if the content isnt removed in 24 hours then email his hosting and processing companies and threaten legal action

Email the site owner, and be civil about it. You never know what the story is. If he tells you to fuck off, then take the legal route. I remember a couple years ago someone emailed us accusing us of stealing his content, and asking us to remove it. Long story short, what had happened was the company we bought the content from actually stole it. They had all the proper documents, which were obviously forged. We worked together, and to this day still do business. It's rare but this type of thing does happen unfortunatly.

UPDATE....

Well, we couldn't find a contact email for the site or webmaster, so I emailed two accounts we found with their host. 2 days later, still NO response from them at all.

You might see if this guy has any of YOUR content... here's the link: www.fuckumall.com
