Actually its about a bit more than change one's name on a SS card. Marriage is not the only way to effect a name change on your SS card.

What Bush is ACTUALLY doing is preventing anyone from claiming SSA benefits on behalf of their now legal spouse.

In short if you marry in San Francisco and 1 month later your spouse dies you dont get a single penny from the SSA. Dont be fooled, its more than the mere blocking of a name change!

Do you live in CA? Again its state authority and so far the highest court in the State says they can continue to issue them. Doubt they would do that if they weren't legal.

I'd love to see the SSA's books. That's been the government's "we can always dip into SSA" fund for years.

There's not enough in there to cover their obligations on a forward looking basis.

If a gay couple wants to be married, it is simply not fair to discriminate and religate them to 2nd class status simply because they enjoy living, loving and having sex with a person of the same gender.

Its going to change and there is no way of stopping it now. You have tens of millions of gay people in this country. So just deal with it and accept the fact that they should have the same rights as us.
