Nothing major happens in Washington DC unless its greenlighted by the White House, especially on an issue as significant as this is. Nothing. |

If you'd like to *believe* nothing happends without the whitehouse's involvement, that's fine. calling it fact isn't. And If it did come from Bush, so what? its upholding the law. something I'm for and you obviously aren't. I love the fact that you won't comment on it being a law Clinton signed.:1orglaugh |
That's going to make for a lot of new tension against the gays.
Sort of like in boot camp how if one guy fucks up, everyone pays.... and the guy who fucks up gets hurt. People are going to be flaming mad over this... on both sides. Sort of an interesting play by the gov. |

KRL,
What does CA law say on the issue? What does Federal law say on the issue? Do you think that the SSA should follow the SF mayor's lead and violate both? |
Actually its about a bit more than change one's name on a SS card. Marriage is not the only way to effect a name change on your SS card.
What Bush is ACTUALLY doing is preventing anyone from claiming SSA benefits on behalf of their now legal spouse. In short if you marry in San Francisco and 1 month later your spouse dies you dont get a single penny from the SSA. Dont be fooled, its more than the mere blocking of a name change! |

Surely you've heard these words. "By the power invested in me by the State of __________.........." The authority to marry is given to each state. The marriage certificates issued in CA are in fact legal. So try reading it again the way i wrote it. :thumbsup Lets not forget that his order to the SSA applies to straight people recently married in SF too. Although i reckon that isn't a problem since there are several outlying counties around SF that CAN issue recognized certificates to STRAIGHT couples. |

Do you live in CA? Again its state authority and so far the highest court in the State says they can continue to issue them. Doubt they would do that if they weren't legal. Enough going back and forth. Obviously you will never understand what i am saying. I thought i expressed myself clearly the first time. Make sure you dont vote. :winkwink: |

KRL,
Care to answer my questions? |

I'd love to see the SSA's books. That's been the government's "we can always dip into SSA" fund for years. There's not enough in there to cover their obligations on a forward looking basis. That my friend is a fact. Prove me wrong on that. MuuuuHaaaaHaaaa Luv Ya 12clicks. The challenges are fun. I'm going to dinner. More sparring later alligator. :Graucho |
Laws are bullshit we all know that. Get real guys. You can turn and twist your way around laws easily in this country. Just look at our industry.
Politicians break the law every day with all their backroom corruption with special interest groups. I don't give a damn what the law says in fact on this issue. The principle founding theme of this country was Liberty and Justice for all. Not just straight people. If a gay couple wants to be married, it is simply not fair to discriminate and religate them to 2nd class status simply because they enjoy living, loving and having sex with a person of the same gender. Its going to change and there is no way of stopping it now. You have tens of millions of gay people in this country. So just deal with it and accept the fact that they should have the same rights as us. |

Nice try. :winkwink: |
Quote:
If a gay guy doesn't want to marry a woman, he has the exact same rights as a strait guy who doesn't want to marry a woman. Marriage is about one man and one woman. Their are MANY variations of that, all are illegal. |

you don't have to get married to change your name.
so this is pointless political posturing. :2 cents: |

500 million disagree with my last post? I'm sure you can prove that somehow.:1orglaugh |
What I find sorta lame is that whenever the white house speaks about the gay marriage thing, they make it sound as if the only ones supporting it are the crazy liberal judges, and that they are going against the will of the poeple('the people' being GWB, of course).
