Oh, and I'm sure in the "liberal hate Bush" mind you believe he micro manages everything that goes on but in reality, government agencies can follow the law without the president telling it to do so.

What country do you live in?

Nothing major happens in Washington DC unless its greenlighted by the White House, especially on an issue as significant as this is.

Nothing.

I live in America where the rule of law applies and we look down on lying.
If you'd like to *believe* nothing happends without the whitehouse's involvement, that's fine. calling it fact isn't.

And If it did come from Bush, so what? its upholding the law. something I'm for and you obviously aren't.

I love the fact that you won't comment on it being a law Clinton signed.:1orglaugh

That's going to make for a lot of new tension against the gays.

Sort of like in boot camp how if one guy fucks up, everyone pays....
and the guy who fucks up gets hurt.

People are going to be flaming mad over this... on both sides.

Sort of an interesting play by the gov.

As if Bush is known to honor laws his predecessors signed :) Give me a break. You know full well that Bush is a religious nut who believes that being gay is a sin and who'll do anything in his power to stop gays from having equal rights. For him, being gay is against nature and God's will.

KRL,

What does CA law say on the issue? What does Federal law say on the issue?

Do you think that the SSA should follow the SF mayor's lead and violate both?

Tornado 03-01-2004 12:26 PM

Actually its about a bit more than change one's name on a SS card. Marriage is not the only way to effect a name change on your SS card.

What Bush is ACTUALLY doing is preventing anyone from claiming SSA benefits on behalf of their now legal spouse.

In short if you marry in San Francisco and 1 month later your spouse dies you dont get a single penny from the SSA. Dont be fooled, its more than the mere blocking of a name change!

Yea, even more so when he shows up at some republican porn-slinger's (that's the biggest oxymoron ever) door saying thanks for the campaign contribution, now put both hands behind your back.

Surely you've heard these words. "By the power invested in me by the State of __________.........." The authority to marry is given to each state. The marriage certificates issued in CA are in fact legal. So try reading it again the way i wrote it. :thumbsup

Lets not forget that his order to the SSA applies to straight people recently married in SF too. Although i reckon that isn't a problem since there are several outlying counties around SF that CAN issue recognized certificates to STRAIGHT couples.

Yes, and the strait couples this effects should sue the City for breaking the law and causing them needless problems.

The lawyers will have a field day with this bullshit move.

The courts are going to be clogged for years cause of all this discrimination.

No -- does it bother you that I know more about the law in CA than you do when you live in the state?

The state Supreme Court didn't say they could be issued... they said the would not issue an immediate halt to their issue...

Two different things.

SSA Money?

I'd love to see the SSA's books. That's been the government's "we can always dip into SSA" fund for years.

There's not enough in there to cover their obligations on a forward looking basis.

Laws are bullshit we all know that. Get real guys. You can turn and twist your way around laws easily in this country. Just look at our industry.

Politicians break the law every day with all their backroom corruption with special interest groups.

I don't give a damn what the law says in fact on this issue. The principle founding theme of this country was Liberty and Justice for all. Not just straight people.

If a gay couple wants to be married, it is simply not fair to discriminate and religate them to 2nd class status simply because they enjoy living, loving and having sex with a person of the same gender.

Its going to change and there is no way of stopping it now. You have tens of millions of gay people in this country. So just deal with it and accept the fact that they should have the same rights as us.

KLR, we do have liberty and justice for all.

If a gay guy doesn't want to marry a woman, he has the exact same rights as a strait guy who doesn't want to marry a woman.
Marriage is about one man and one woman. Their are MANY variations of that, all are illegal.

If you could produce a national poll backing up your fiction you'd have an argument. as it is you have only a lie.
The majority of Americans do not support Gay marriage. period.
