It's so nice to be gainfully employed with a huge adult firm and also have my free time booked for freelance work. There seems to be a ton of work to be had but 3 or 4 designers chomping at the bit for every job. Not a good ratio

My rent is due tomorrow and let's see how close I am to having it... hmm. I have eight cents. That's close! I might have to dip into the $7 in my son's piggy bank.
In all seriousness, it's bad. Really bad. So much competition it's crazy, but everyone's gotta make a living somehow, so I can't begrudge anyone. I just wish I didn't have to lose income to the kids living in mom's basement who can work for $6 an hour because they don't have kids to feed and rent to pay like I do.
Oh well, "them's the breaks", I guess. I'm very happy for those of you who have steady jobs and those who've recently become overbooked. That's very inspiring to hear.

Tootie, I feel for you, I've seen your posts for a while and you seem like a really nice person, my advice to you is to get out of competition with the $6 an hour people. If your quality is the same as theirs, people will always choose them. You need to lift your designs to the next level.
I would also redesign your bannerbabe.com site, as it is the greatest selling tool you have, yet it looks rushed and if I were a prospective customer I would question if you too would rush my work.
The design game is unfortunately one of the toughest parts of this biz, however just like everything else, you only get out what you put in, both in terms of time and money!Comment
