Opinions needed: DV cams
I'm in the market for a new(SMALL) DV cam.
I currently have a 4 year old Digital 8 Sony TRV-310, which works very well, however it is rather large. Was just in the Apple store with my wife, who saw the TRV 22 and liked it. Its small, its miniDV. Costs around $699(price is an issue, but not a huge one. I'd like to stay in that ballpark). Also there was the Canon Elura 50(I think). Anyone have opinions on these in real world situations? Quality, bang for the buck, etc? I'm looking for reviews now, but I wanted to get opinions from people who use them. So far as what it will be used for: some modeling shoots, some "vacation" use, and quite a bit of random "around town" use in non controlled situations. (meaning I won't have a lighting rig with me). Firewire is mandatory... thanks! t

I'll sell you my Sony TRV-19 for $400 with a Lowepro case and extra 2 hour battery. Bought it for about $850 with the accessories 6 months ago. I want to upgrade to a pro model shortly.
The TRV-19 is virtually the same as the TRV-22 but with a black and white viewfinder ( which you probably won't use, because the color LCD is so much nicer ). The TRV-19 doesn't have the memory stick slot either. It's in perfect condition. |

I don't have experience with small (sub-$1000) cams.
In the 2200-2500 range I recommend my personal favorite - Sony VX2000/2100. It's an amazing cam perfect for pro use. As to cams in the 500-700 segment, I'd really get one of the Sony's too. If you can't beat 'em, join em ![]()

I own Sony TRV-19E
great cam... there are 2 more expensive models, TRV 22E and 33E I believe, but they're virtually the same as the 19E except for a color viewfinder (which you won't use) and 2 more digital effects, and a memmory slot (which you won't use because it takes pics in 640x480 res) ... Plus these are much more expensive Get the TRV-19E, you won't be sorry.. |
