Go find a website that deals with ergonomics and read how you should set up your work area....and trust me you will notice the difference. For a while I was in agony constantly, both my hands and my right arm from the mouse.

I switched to an ergonomic keyboard, bought a desk that was the appropriate height, made sure my chair was at the exact height it should be....monitor raised to eye level etc.

Worked for me. I am on the computer for up to 18 hours a day and I know longer have any problems.

why you gonna say "go find a website that..." when you obviously have found the information yourself...that would be an interesting site to read cant you just post something up for us to check out?

First thing everyone should do is switch their mouse-wheel from
3-lines to one-full-page. I can pinpoint a period of excessive
mousewheel use as the cause of my hand problems.

Good posture, arm/hand stretching/exercises, relaxed exercised shoulders are all important.

With care it does get better. You don't have to live with pain
everytime you slightly touch the mouse. It can be scary but with
care you can recover and although you'll always live with it the
pain factor can be lessened and controlled.

It is a myth that working on a computer causes carpal tunnel unless all day you are doing repetitive movement (i.e. hitting the refresh button). 90% of carpal tunnel victims gain it in their sleep. Don't believe me, see a doctor or a few.

Really?

I got mine when I worked in an office that didn't believe in mouse pads with wrist rests. After 6 months and nearly 1 in 6 people in the office complaining about carpel tunnel, the company picked up wrist rests.

I actually had two sessions with one of those 'gifted' guys. A Myotherapist (I think it's the English word for them) anyhow, he snapped the nerves back into place. No problem since.

I guess we should all sit on the floor and put our monitors on the
roof and our mouses on a table 5 feet high then. Based on your
reading of some article on some site... I'm now sure that it's
impossible to damage any part of your body by using a computer.
It's impossible.... It all happens in your sleep fools.
[/sarcasm]

pfft.

I don't know how many times a week I wake up with my hands tingling (asleep). Talked to my doctor and he said it was early carpel tunnel. Prior to all this computer work, I did accounting for a living (spent hours a day doing 10-key).

He told me instead of getting those expensive wrist support things they sell for carpel tunnel to go to the local bowling alley pro shop and buy two wrist supports and sleep with them on. I don't do it every night, but when I do it makes a difference.

Other thing he told me to do was to bend my hand backwards at the wrist and hold it there several times a day.
