Thanks
What Lenny didn't mention was the very large fee that Godaddy charges you to unlock each domain - and they often take days to do it.

Guilty or innocent - it doesn't matter - you pay the fee or your domains stay locked till they get round do investigating it - and while they're locked your sites just 404.

And yes, that letter is completely fair and it's standard practice. It's the same way at any registrar. Letting your domains expire is no one's fault but your own, with or without a reminder. Bottom line. Keeping up with that is part of your biz responsibility, so don't bitch when you drop the ball.

Btw - godaddy will assfuck you. Be sure to bump this thread when you're crying about paying them the fee to get your nameservers changed back, for doing nothing wrong.

Question to cherrylula:

If you had 25 or so websites, or more, or less, AND you had a choice of two EXACTLY same registrars services, one costing $15.00 a year, and the other costing $7.95 a year.

Would you not take the less expensive?

I mean why not save the bucks for a nice dinner or two with your second half, or third half for that matter.

Sure if they IS a difference in services, I can understand why to use one over the other. However I had not had any problems, or have heard about any problems with GoDaddy.com until Lenny2 wrote it here.

And I have yet to hear other bad things about them, (GoDaddy.com) so please write me if anyone knows.

Don't be lazy - use the search function on this board and do a search for Godaddy - and then thank your lucky stars you haven't been caught yet.

I would choose the one with better service, directnic.

If you can't make enough off one domain name in a single year to pay back the $15 and then some, you are in the wrong industry.

Yeah free dinner is great, but definitely not worth screwing around with your sites and income from them.

3) I admitted in my starting post, that I forgot.

4) I said I did NOT receive any email reminders!

Thanks
I would appreciate it if you wouldn't flame a reputable company when you have nobody to blame but yourself for your current situation.

If you just wanted our opinions on Directnic you could have titled the poll "What do you think of Directnic?"
Instead you chose to title the poll "Directnic.com scum of the universe?"

You admitted in your first post that you forgot, that's the only thing you've done right since you got here.

If you didn't receive the email reminders its because you don't have correct information on file with directnic or you didn't configure your spam filter properly. Either way that's still YOUR fault.

You're right I should have written a different subject.

I was pissed and did not use all my marbles.

Is there anyways I can change the subject text? It's been over 15 minutes since I posted so I can't edit my first post.

I do see the "Mail the Administrator to request a change" email option. Does he/she really have time to do that?

Just received a notice from them today actually.

Message sent by DirectNic:

directNIC renewal notice for username:xxxxxxxxx

This message is to inform you that the following domains in your directNIC.com account will expire in 90 days. Your domains will no longer be accessible on the Internet once they expire. To prevent this from happening, please renew the domains as soon as possible.

I'm guessing your email wasn't updated in their system.

So you think it is alright for them not to send a courtesy email reminder?

Just curious...

Well maybe the email reminder was just a glitch or technical problem.

Thanks for your comment.
I just renewed a domain with them. They sent me 2 emails that I can remember off the top of my head. I think the 1st email was like 2 months before it expired. **You** fucked up man.

i host over 10k domains with DN and their main programmer spend a day last week programming a custom interface for us.

They were that cooperative back in the days when we had < 100 domains.

Rackspace and Directnic are the only two online companies
i can trust (knock knock)

I guess it's just me, but that seems a bit strange.
It's not strange since technically you don't own the domains, they do, and in turn lease you use of them for an agreed upon period. The don't have to oblige you at all since it was indeed your own fault that they expired.

I get numerous emails at varying intervals from Directnic before a domain expires; if it happens it's either because I didn't want them any more or because I'm a dumbass. In either case, it wasn't Directnic's fault.

Remember this, just because you didn't recieve an email it doesn't automaticaly mean it was never sent. Check your spam filters, your ISP's spam filters and make sure you have a valid email on file with Directnic. If you're one of those bozos with phony whois info then you wouldn't receive the mail either.

It all boils down to the fact that you won't get sympathy from the majority of us who love being in business with Directnic for a variety of reasons and are more than happy to pay the extra $8 a year to have peace of mind.

My one criticism of Directnic is that they remove expired sites on the day of listed expiry rather than giving until midnight that day.
That should be fixed.

They do warn you via email tho. Try using a real email address.

I think there's a rule for every registrar, including your fav. Godaddy, that you can not transfer a domain a month before it expire.

Tranfer to a new registrar that is, because it's possible to transfer w/i the same registrar to a new owner.

DirectNic sends out SEVERAL emails before AND after the domain expires. You let it expire. Period.

You could have moved it to GoDaddy before it expired, you had a full year to do so, but you didn't.

Having you renew the domain is the same way every registar works and had since others could sell domains besides Netsol.

Seriously, if you think $15 is too expensive for the excellent service DirectNic gives (and they have quantity discounts, BTW), then...well...you and GoDaddy deserve each other.

What about auto-renewal by the registrar? That's an option for nearly every registrar.

firstly, they do send out atleast two, I think three warning emails when your domain is about to expire including on the day.

Secondly, they are doing you a favour by holding the domain. Otherwise someone else could grab it from you.

Thirdly, they are worth the extra money.

man, seriously, it's almost annoying the amount of mails they send you to see if you'll re-register. and they even let you renew 2 months after the domain expires before letting it go, what do you want? a limo to your house with a hot girl who gives you ablowjob and after that she tells that your domains are about to expire?

Goddamn, what a stupid whiney bitch. I do believe that the reason they won't let you transfer the domain after it has expired is due to ICANN regulations. You have to register, and then transfer, regardless of what registrar you use.

I only ever registered a few domains with DirectNic (I use RegisterFly) and i got 3 reminder emails for each one.

More than likely, your email is fucking up. DirectNic is not to blame; you're just an idiot.

Godaddy suck ass... Wait till they hit you with a random single spam complaint (I have never spammed). They'll lock your account, and you'll pay either $29 (ransom fee) or $100 to solve your probs... then that $8 don't seem so good.

DirectNic have been better for me so far.
